About Us

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) is one of the largest and oldest public health agencies in the world. It has historically been at the forefront of many ground-breaking public health initiatives. The NYC DOHMH’s Bureau of Maternal, Infant and Reproductive Health (BMIRH) promotes sexual, reproductive, maternal, perinatal and infant health; seeks to reduce disparities in access to care; and educates and supports New Yorkers to make informed, responsible and healthy choices in their sexual and reproductive lives. The Healthy Teens Initiative (HTI), housed in BMIRH’s Adolescent Reproductive Health Programs, aims to improve the quality of reproductive health services offered to teens in community health centers serving high-risk populations. Through training and technical assistance as well as contraceptive grants to community providers, HTI contributes to the NYC goal of reducing teen pregnancy.
