Tempe Police Department

  • Mission

The mission of the Tempe Police Department's Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program is to expand and enhance the services that the Tempe Police Department provides to the citizens of Tempe. There are currently more than 125 volunteers involved in every area of the police department.

    About Us

Tempe Police Volunteers come from all walks of life, including students, interns, retirees, stay-at-home parents and working professionals. The Tempe Police Volunteers are enabled to give back to their community in a very special way. Some volunteers are exploring future career possibilities in law enforcement and public service. Our VIPs generously give of their time in many areas, including the Tempe Police Pipe and Drum Band, assisting with K-9 and Mounted Patrol units, providing computer and data entry skills, and helping patrol officers with park patrols, traffic control and disabled parking enforcement through Motorist Assist and more. The time donated by our VIPs allows police officers and staff to devote their time to law enforcement and public safety emergencies- the work they are trained to do. The Tempe Police Department is always recruiting new volunteers, consider submitting your application today!
