    The mission of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Bureau of Immunization, is to protect the health of all New Yorkers through the prevention and control of Vaccine Preventable Diseases.

    About Us

    The Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention (PHBP) Unit within the Bureau of Immunization is responsible for conducting surveillance for hepatitis B infected pregnant women, and providing case management to help prevent the transmission of hepatitis B from these women to their newborns and contacts, including other children in the household. Approximately, 1200 hepatitis B infected pregnant or post-partum women are identified in New York City each year.
