    Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANCs) are non-partisan, locally elected groups of representatives in the District of Columbia that provide input to the DC Council and DC agencies on issues related to zoning, transportation, public safety, and liquor licenses. There are 40 ANCs in the District of Columbia and ANC 1B is the largest ANC in the District of Columbia. ANC 1B serves the communities of U Street, Columbia Heights, Shaw, LeDroit Park, Pleasant Plains, University Heights, and lower Georgia Avenue.
