About Us

We know that variations in our climate – which can have deep and far-reaching impacts – can be predicted and prepared for. And we know that our climate is changing. Adding to ongoing natural variations, these changes will increase risks to water supplies, human health, natural systems, infrastructure, and other economically vital resources.

Reducing climate risks requires robust and reliable information that people can use when making decisions. Since 1995, the Climate Impacts Group has provided the fundamental scientific understanding, data, tools, and guidance needed to help decision makers understand, prepare for and manage local climate impacts.

We do the hard science to determine how climate affects people and places across the Northwest and western United States, and help managers and decision makers use this knowledge to build climate resilience. Learn more about what we do and how to partner with us.

The Climate Impacts Group is a member organization of EarthLab at the University of Washington.
