Open Doors NYC
- New York
OPEN DOORS works with men of color living in a long-term care facility to improve their lives and inspire action for safer, more just communities. Most of our members have spinal cord injuries from drug-related gun violence. Creativity workshops, leadership development, and educational grants connect members with resources to move forward in their lives, from going to college to publishing their poetry to leaving the hospital and living independently. Spoken word performances, gun-violence awareness panels, and personal narrative podcasts amplify OPEN DOORS voices to inform the national dialogue around racism, poverty, incarceration, disability, and agency.
OPEN DOORS operates under the umbrella of the Angelica Patient Assistance Program, a 501 (c) 3. For more than ten years, Angelica has been providing arts and educational programming for economically disadvantaged patients and residents of long-term care facilities in New York City.
