Louisville Metro Government Senior Nutrition Meals on Wheels

  • Mission

The Senior Nutrition Program provides nutritional lunchtime meals to active senior citizens at Congregate Meal Sites and delivers to homebound seniors through the Meals on Wheels Program, throughout the Louisville Metro area. These programs help to improve the lives of older adults by supporting good nutritional health and promoting their independence and well-being.

    About Us

Volunteers provide a needed service in delivering meals to older adults who are homebound. Louisville Metro delivers over 500 meals a week on approximately 84 routes. Although the volunteer’s primary task is to deliver a nutritional meal to homebound seniors, social connection is a very important aspect of the role. Often the volunteer delivering the mobile meals is the only regular social interaction for a homebound senior. The Nutrition office depends on volunteers to report any changes or information concerning the Meals on Wheels participants.

Congregate and Group Nutrition Sites offer an opportunity for seniors age 60 and older to come to up to 16 neighborhood locations for a nutritious lunch, socialization and activities. Most sites are open from 9am to 1pm Monday through Friday. Volunteers may also support supervisors at these sites.
