City of Sedona

  • Mission

In simple terms, sustainability means meeting our needs without compromising the ability of our children and grandchildren to meet their own needs. (Brundtland Report, 1987) Said another way, sustainability means creating a way of life in Sedona that can be enjoyed now and in the future. To do this, we need a strategy for managing essential resources like our food and water supplies, and the natural environment. The City created the Sustainability Program in 2019 to guide the process.

    About Us

    Our Climate Action Plan

A major task for the Sustainability Program was creating the Sedona Climate Action Plan, or CAP, approved and adopted by the City Council in July 2021. The CAP outlines the actions needed to reduce community greenhouse gas emissions and adapt Sedona to a changing climate.

Our Municipal Sustainability Plan City Hall must lead Sedona’s sustainability efforts by setting an example for residents and businesses. In conjunction with the Climate Action Plan, the Sustainability Program completed the Municipal Sustainability Plan in February 2020, which sets goals and objectives for improving sustainability at City-owned properties and buildings, and in City processes and functions. It does so by reducing consumption, increasing effectiveness, and enhancing employee retention, among other measures.
