  • About Us

Civic engagement is at the core of all our efforts to make Seattle an even greater city. This work is part of Cities of Service and Seattle's Service Plan and supports our commitment to foster individual action/civic engagement and to work across sectors in support of the most pressing needs facing children and youth.Seattle is a literate, creative, and innovative city. Yet many of our youth of color and low-income students do not graduate from high school ready for a career or higher education. It is the Mayor's goal that all Seattle youth can succeed in school and in life.In our Service Plan, we have initiatives focused on early literacy, after school programs for middle school students and mentorship for at-risk youth offering every committed person the opportunity to volunteer their time to make real progress toward this goal.Central to the Seattle Service Plan is the belief that organized community members committed to creating systemic change are capable of great progress. The value of engaging community members in meaningful volunteer opportunities focused on education and youth development is the power that these volunteers are capable of when they work together towards a common goal. Through this commitment, the City of Seattle is addressing the short term progress necessary to support our most vulnerable youth but also facilitating the long-term change that can impact generations to come.
