Alaska Public Defender Agency

  • Mission

Providing constitutionally mandated legal representation to indigent clients appointed by the court.

    About Us

The Alaska Public Defender Agency comprises criminal, civil, and appellate divisions, and provides a wide variety of services, including but not limited to: representing individuals charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses; providing parent advocacy, juvenile defense, and mental health advocacy; and handling statewide appeals for criminal, child in need of aid, and juvenile delinquency cases.

The Alaska Public Defender Agency extends the right of legal representation to those who would not otherwise be able to afford counsel. Hosting AmeriCorps members allows us to expand beyond our primary mission, and to address our clients' social and economic needs alongside their legal cases.
