The Master of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in Fine Arts (MAT-FA) is a two-year, primarily online program, with a short on-campus residency. Our program focuses on the development of rigorous pedagogical expertise required to improve the delivery of high-quality arts experiences in schools and communities. The program focuses on multicultural arts education in theatre, dance, visual arts, media, and music; and activist art. Students have the opportunity to implement arts based thematic units with a variety of community members to gain insight into lesson adaptation, reciprocal community engaged learning, and the creative process. Post residency, students’ complete online assignments that provide an in-depth understanding of the theoretical foundations of art as a tool for personal, interpersonal, social, political and environmental action.

This MAT-FA is appropriate for teaching artists (licensed or not) seeking a graduate level degree that emphasizes advanced coursework and pedagogy regarding teaching in and across the arts.
