Bennett Place State Historic Site


  • Mission

    To interpret the largest surrender of the American Civil War and the life of the Piedmont farmer in the 19th century.

    About Us

    The property known as the farm of James and Nancy Bennett is transferred to the North Carolina Government on July 1, 1960 and becomes Bennett Place State Historic Site. The site is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 5pm. Guided tours are conducted on the hour and there is an orientation film that is shown on the half hour. In addtion to the film and tour, there is a newly renovated museum and gift shop. There are educational programs available to students by reservation and living history programs are held periodically throughout the year.
