    Gateway National Recreation Area is a large urban national park with 27,000 acres spanning Sandy Hook in New Jersey and Jamaica Bay and Staten Island in New York. The National Recreation Area offers green spaces, beaches, wildlife and outdoor recreation, all alongside historic structures and cultural landscapes. As part of the National Park Service (NPS), Gateway’s mission is to preserve and protect the natural, cultural, and historic resources of the park for future generations. It is the 4th most visited National Park Service unit with more than 9.2 million annual visitors.
