About Us

Organizational Overview:

The Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS) oversees the substance addiction and gambling prevention, treatment and recovery services in the Commonwealth. Responsibilities include: licensing programs and counselors; funding and monitoring prevention, treatment and recovery support services; providing access to treatment for the indigent and uninsured; developing and implementing policies and programs; providing safe places and education to maintain recovery and tracking substance abuse trends in the state.


BSAS Recovery Support Services includes oversight of the 10 recovery support centers throughout the state; recovery coach trainings, including recovery coach academy, ethical considerations, motivational interviewing, cultural competency and others. Recovery high schools and recovery housing are also provided by BSAS, which are overseen in other depts.
