History, Tourism & Cultural Activities Internship

We are offering an exciting opportunity for international Erasmus+ students to complete their internship in different culture and tourism locations in our network of trusted partners across the deeply historical city of Agrigento, Sicily.

We collaborate with many archeological and cultural sites, museums, art galleries and travel agencies. Depending on your area of interest, your studies, and your skills, you will be connected to a different NEXO partner.

Note: not all locations allow trainees to conduct guided tours.

The internship roles:

1. Cultural Sites & Visitor Experience

This track is suited for candidates interested in cultural heritage, museums, events, and direct interaction with visitors.

Your role:

• Assist in welcoming and supporting visitors at cultural and tourism sites
• Provide information about exhibitions, locations, and ongoing activities
• Support educational activities, workshops, and group experiences (especially with school groups)
• Assist or lead guided visits
• Help coordinate visitor flow and group logistics
• Support the organization and management of cultural events (e.g. music, astronomy, seasonal events)
• Assist with front office activities and general visitor services
• Contribute to the promotion of cultural activities and thematic experiences
• Support daily operations of cultural spaces and tourism-related locations

Apply if this is you:

• You are currently studying or have a background in Tourism, Cultural Heritage, History, Archaeology, or related fields
• You are enthusiastic, communicative, and passionate about culture, and enjoy helping visitors from different backgrounds discover and better understand the cultural and historical identity of Agrigento and Sicily through engaging and meaningful experiences
• You enjoy dynamic environments involving cultural events, workshops, guided activities, educational experiences, and public interaction
• You are comfortable working outdoors in warm weather conditions and moving across different types of terrain and cultural sites
• You have a good command of English, French, or Italian (minimum B2 level)

1. Tourism Services & Travel Agency Support

This track is suited for candidates interested in tourism operations, customer service, and travel planning, with less emphasis on cultural guiding.

Your role:

• Assist in front office activities and customer reception
• Support travel planning and booking processes
• Help organize itineraries, tours, and tourism services
• Provide information and assistance to clients regarding travel options and local experiences
• Assist with administrative tasks and documentation
• Support coordination of tourism services and client requests
• Contribute to communication and promotional activities
• Assist with daily operations of the agency

Apply if this is you:

• You are currently studying or have a background in Tourism, Hospitality, Communication, Languages, Business, Marketing, International Relations, or related fields
• You enjoy working with people and are interested in tourism services, travel planning, and helping visitors discover Agrigento and Sicily through welcoming, organized, and engaging experiences
• You are communicative, adaptable, and comfortable supporting client interactions, coordinating activities, and contributing to the daily operations of a dynamic tourism environment
• You have a good command of English, French, or Italian (minimum B1 level)

Our Community Resources

To ensure a smooth and successful internship, all our interns have access to the following resources:

• Shared accommodation in fully furnished apartments (utilities included)
• Italian language classes (beginner and intermediate levels)
• Administrative support throughout the internship
• Participation in cultural activities and events

Our Requirements:

• You are eligible for the Erasmus+ program or a similar international mobility program, which typically provide you with financial support
• You are available to spend at least 4 months in Agrigento
• You are able to cover possible short-distance commuting expenses related to the internship
