    Description

    ABOUT RENEWABLE NORTHWEST

Renewable Northwest (RNW) is a regional nonprofit clean energy advocacy organization whose mission is to decarbonize the region by accelerating the transition to renewable electricity. Renewable Northwest serves four Northwest states – Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Member organizations include leading renewable energy businesses, environmental organizations, consumer groups and other renewable energy sector affiliates.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is open to candidates who maintain a residence in OR, WA, ID or MT.

RNW has built a strong library of research, fact sheets, and communications materials, but a distribution gap means that content isn't consistently reaching the county commissioners, legislators, and partner organizations who need it most. As Communications Intern, you will own and execute targeted outreach campaigns, build the tracking infrastructure to measure their impact, and develop the social media presence that keeps RNW visible between campaigns. The Communications Intern will drive distribution strategy, produce campaign content, and turn engagement data into actionable insights.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Design and execute communications campaigns on key topics (including land use in Oregon, battery energy storage systems, and state economic development)
    • Assist with website content development and social media strategy for the launch of an Idaho county-based solar ordinance campaign
    • Build and maintain an editorial calendar for RNW’s LinkedIn, repurposing blogs and fact sheets into fresh content.
    • Support RNW’s website redevelopment process, including copyediting and ensuring brand alignment throughout.
    • Track social media performance on a recurring basis and produce reports.
    • Design digital communications assets including one-pagers, social media graphics, and branded templates as needs arise.

    WHAT YOU’LL GAIN

This is an opportunity to build practical experience across campaign management, content strategy, and digital analytics. You'll work on real projects with real audiences, develop professional writing skills across a range of formats, and leave with a portfolio of finished work you can point to. Bonus: you'll also pick up substantive knowledge of the energy and land use policy issues shaping the region.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Environmental Studies, Public Policy, or a related field.
    • Strong written communication skills.
    • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks.
    • Interest in environmental, energy, or land use policy topics.
    • Basic graphic design skills using Canva or similar tools.
