    Description

Business & Marketing Program β€” Art in Tanzania

Build real skills. In a real organisation. In one of Africa's fastest-growing economies.

Most internships give you a desk, a supervisor, and a set of tasks someone else designed. This one gives you something rarer: genuine responsibility inside a self-sustaining NGO that funds its own mission through safari operations and the sale of environmentally friendly products β€” and needs your skills to grow.

Art in Tanzania is not a simulation. It's a working organisation, and you'll be part of making it work.

    About the Program

Since 1996, Art in Tanzania has placed approximately 250 participants annually in community-based programmes across Tanzania. Our Business & Marketing Program is built for students who want to apply their education in dynamic, resource-constrained, and genuinely impactful settings.

You will work within a multi-professional team of international and Tanzanian students and professionals β€” gaining cross-cultural collaboration experience that is increasingly rare and increasingly valued by employers worldwide.

    What You'll Work On

The programme spans two interconnected tracks, which you can focus on or combine based on your background and goals:

    πŸ“£ Marketing & Communications

    • Digital marketing β€” manage and grow our online presence across platforms, including content strategy, copywriting, and campaign execution.
    • SEO & web development β€” contribute to website improvements, optimise content for search, and support our digital visibility goals
    • Social media management β€” create and publish content across our channels, including a Facebook audience of over 50,000 followers, and help amplify the reach of our programmes.
    • Programme promotion β€” develop materials and campaigns to market our volunteer placements, internships, safaris, and tours to an international audience

    🏒 NGO Management & Development

    • Organisational management support β€” assist with the day-to-day management and strategic development of a working NGO
    • Staff training β€” help design and deliver training sessions that equip the team with new skills, from digital literacy to sustainability practices
    • Community entrepreneurship β€” support grassroots business development initiatives within the communities we serve
    • Network development β€” build and maintain organisational partnerships, a critical function in a context where collaboration compensates for limited capacity.
    • Sustainability advocacy β€” contribute to raising awareness about environmental and social sustainability across the organisation and its programmes.

    The Learning Outcome

This programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic training and real-world application. You will leave with a working understanding of how marketing, management, and business development function in a developing-country context β€” where creativity, adaptability, and collaboration matter as much as technical skill.

You will also gain a first-hand perspective on the opportunities available in one of Africa's most dynamic and fast-growing economies. This lens is genuinely difficult to acquire anywhere else.

Academic-level team leaders supervise your placement daily, and a weekly plan-and-report system ensures your work is structured, purposeful, and aligned with your study programme.

    How It Works

Hours: 6–8 hours per day, Monday to Friday. Start date: Flexible β€” the programme runs continuously year-round. Duration: Adjustable to your academic schedule and goals. Group size: 15–40 international students at any time, drawn from 400+ partner universities worldwide

Your placement is fully tailored to your background, experience, and interests. Business, marketing, communications, management, economics, entrepreneurship, and related fields are all a strong fit β€” but we welcome innovative thinkers from any discipline.

    Life in Tanzania

Tanzania offers an extraordinary backdrop for this experience. Rich culture, iconic landscapes, and remarkable wildlife are on your doorstep. Affordable, sustainable safaris and tours are available for you and any visiting friends or family.

This program is the kind of context that sharpens your thinking, broadens your perspective, and makes for compelling conversations throughout your career.

    Funding

Erasmus+ funding may be available for this placement. Speak with your student office about grant options that could fully or partially fund this experience.
