    Description

Earth Day Initiative is a non-profit organization that promotes environmental awareness through annual Earth Day events, as well as year-round programs, including our sustainable food education program, green buildings publication, and regular work with community partners around a range of sustainability initiatives. In recent years we marked Earth Day with virtual events bringing people together from around the world to take part in sustainability initiatives and climate activism.

Our livestream and videogame-inspired virtual reality platform reached over 1.75 million people to call for climate action and environmental justice. In the past few years our virtual events included Al Gore, Robert Downey Jr, Bill Nye, Ian Somerhalder, Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr, Elizabeth Warren, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Broadway performers from Jagged Little Pill and Hamilton, climate scientists, activists, and sustainability experts.

We seek a Campaign and Community Outreach Intern to assist us the organizing of our Earth Day 2026 outdoor in-person (and virtual) events, as well as in our year-round sustainability programs, including our sustainable food education program and corporate employee engagement programs. The intern would be responsible for outreach to and communication with schools, local businesses, national companies, and environmental organizations in our efforts to get these various groups involved in our events and programs. We work with organizations like March for Science, Fridays for Future, Natural Resources Defense Council, the NYC Department of Education, Whole Foods, Arc'teryx, Rainforest Alliance, Environmental Defense Fund, March for Science, New York Botanical Garden, GrowNYC, the United Nations, and the New York Times.

We're preparing now for our Earth Day 2026 events which will include outdoor in-person events in New York City as well as a virtual events with prominent activists and entertainers (details to be announced soon). Both our outdoor in-person events and virtual events will feature a wide range of environmental organizations and a virtual stage with a full line-up of speakers and interactive sessions.

This internship provides a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the spheres of environmental education and corporate social responsibility and gain contacts at dozens of organizations working in these fields. The position would be ideal for someone interested in pursuing a career in corporate social responsibility, environmental advocacy, or sustainability.
