Event Location: Orinda Country Club (On-site for event)
Work Location: 1035 Grayson Street, Berkeley CA 94710 (Hybrid Preparation)
Contract Duration: July – October 2026 (the event is on October 26, 2026)
Compensation: Competitive, Flat Project Rate (Commensurate with experience)

The Center for Early Intervention on Deafness (CEID) has a mission to maximize the communication potential of children and adults who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH) through early education, family support, and community audiology services. Founded in 1980, CEID is a statewide leader in best practices, earning acknowledgment from the California Department of Education and the California Speech Language Hearing Association.
CEID’s 42nd Annual Golf Tournament: Event Overview
For the past forty-one years, CEID has hosted a charity golf tournament to raise funds for programs and services. This year’s Golf Tournament and Cocktail Reception is scheduled to be held on October 26 at the Orinda Country Club.
CEID is seeking an experienced, results driven independent contractor to manage the event. The ideal candidate is a collaborative project manager; has 5+ years of experience managing nonprofit or corporate events; 3+ years of experience working as an independent event manager/planner; and a strong track record of successfully implementing nonprofit fundraising or corporate marketing events. Experience managing golf tournaments or similar events is a big plus.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience planning and implementing nonprofit fundraising events; golf tournament planning preferred.
- Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success managing events with complex programs. Organized, detail-oriented, able to adhere to timelines, manage priorities, and collaborate well with multiple stakeholders.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of and experience in nonprofit fundraising events, including designing priorities, sequencing activities, managing relationships and communications, and driving for tangible outcomes. Prior experience planning charity golf tournaments is highly preferred.
- Skills: Exceptional project management, time management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Tools: Proficiency with fundraising and registration platforms, specifically Salesforce, or a similar database; project management and collaboration tools.
Scope of Work
- Pre-event planning: Creating a comprehensive project timeline; implementing marketing, outreach, and sponsorship solicitation strategies, recruitment and training of volunteers.
- Logistics management: Managing invitation dissemination, communication with sponsors and other partners, handling guest lists and registration, handling in-kind contributions, and coordinating pre-event and day-of logistics with the event venue.
- On-site event execution: Manage and coordinate event production, including set-up and tear down; manage volunteer assignments and oversee activities, including registration and stewardship; manage and coordinate activities with the event venue, including set up, food service, and Audio/Visual, etc.
- Post-event wrap-up: Coordinate administrative tasks such as invoicing and gift recognition; project evaluation, including articulation of next steps and remaining tasks; and other administrative tasks as needed.
Contractual Requirements (California)
As an independent contractor, this individual must be able to meet the following criteria prior to contract execution:
- Tax Documentation: Must provide a complete W-9. Compensation will be reported via Form 1099; no taxes will be withheld by CEID.
- Insurance: Must maintain and provide proof of General Liability insurance ($1M limits preferred) naming CEID as an additional insured.
- Equipment: Must utilize your own computer, phone, vehicle (with auto insurance) and any other tools needed to complete the scope of work.
- (Preferred): Operate as an established independent contractor (Sole Proprietor or LLC).
Contract Timeline & Pay
July to end of October; contract will pay based on qualifications and experience on a schedule of deliverables up to $10,000.
