    About the Deschutes River Alliance

    The Deschutes River Alliance (DRA) is a science-based advocacy organization dedicated to restoring and protecting the Wild and Scenic Deschutes River and its tributaries. We work to advance solutions for cleaner, cooler water, healthier ecosystems, and the recovery of native fish populations.

    Our approach combines scientific research, public engagement, and strategic advocacy to address the most pressing environmental challenges facing the Deschutes Basin.

    The Opportunity

    We are seeking a Marketing & Event Coordinator who is passionate about environmental conservation and excited to contribute to a small, collaborative team making a tangible impact.

    This role is ideal for someone early in their career who wants to build skills across communications, community engagement, and fundraising while working closely with organizational leadership.

    What You’ll Do

    You will play a key role in helping DRA grow and engage its community of supporters.

    Communications & Outreach (50%)

    • Manage and create content for social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
    • Draft and send weekly email communications
    • Produce a quarterly newsletter
    • Maintain and update website content
    • Create basic visual assets aligned with organizational branding
    • Represent DRA at community events and outreach opportunities

    Events & Fundraising (40%)

    • Coordinate DRA’s annual fundraising auction
    • Support donor outreach and event participation
    • Help plan and execute TroutFest and other community events
    • Build relationships with vendors, partners, and supporters

    Development & Administrative Support (10%)

    • Maintain donor database and records
    • Ensure timely donor acknowledgments
    • Support annual fundraising campaigns and mailings

    Who You Are

    You are someone who:

    • Is highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities
    • Communicates clearly and writes effectively
    • Enjoys building relationships with supporters and community members
    • Is proactive, adaptable, and detail-oriented
    • Is motivated by environmental conservation and protecting natural resources

    Qualifications

    • 1–2 years of experience in nonprofit, communications, marketing, or a related field
    • Strong writing and editing skills
    • Experience with social media and email marketing platforms
    • Comfort working with databases (CRM experience a plus)
    • Proficiency with Google Workspace and basic project management tools
    • Willingness to occasionally work evenings and weekends for events

    Preferred but not required:

    • Familiarity with outdoor recreation, river conservation, or fly fishing communities

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Salary: $50,000–$55,000 (depending on experience)

    Location & Travel

    • Based in Portland, Oregon (Portland metro residency preferred)
    • Occasional travel within Oregon required (valid driver’s license needed)
