    Description

About the Psychedelic Science Funders Collaborative

The Psychedelic Science Funders Collaborative (PSFC) is a community of philanthropists dedicated to enabling access to psychedelic healing for all who can benefit. Together as philanthropists, we seek to connect, to learn, and to advance the psychedelic field by leveraging targeted funding, informed by world class expertise, and powered by our collaborative network.

    Position Overview

PSFC is seeking a Deputy Director to serve as a key organizational leader and thought partner to the Executive Director. This is a rare opportunity for someone who is passionate about the psychedelic field and has both strategic and operational acumen. The Deputy Director will lead a small, talented team across finance, operations, community engagement, field building, and fundraising — while also playing a visible external role as a trusted advisor to PSFC's philanthropic members.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in entrepreneurial environments, brings a systems-thinking mindset to organizational challenges, and has the credibility and warmth to serve as a genuine ambassador for the field. This role reports to PSFC’s Executive Director.

    Responsibilities

    Team Leadership & Management

    • Directly supervise a team of 5-7 staff and consultants, helping them set priorities, work efficiently, and meet clearly defined goals and expectations
    • Support the team’s professional development with mentorship and performance reviews
    • Drive communication, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration, including through team meetings and project management
    • Attract, develop, and retain high-performing talent aligned with PSFC's mission and values

    Organizational Strategy & Operations

    • Partner with the Executive Director to set organization-wide priorities and manage progress against strategic goals
    • Strengthen organizational systems, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness across functions including communications, technology, finance, and member management
    • Support the Executive Director with board management, including regular communication and quarterly meetings

    Member Relations & External Engagement

    • Serve as a senior point of contact for PSFC members, cultivating trusted relationships and providing strategic advisory support
    • Represent PSFC externally with credibility and fluency in key issues in the psychedelic field
    • Collaborate with the community engagement and field building teams to ensure members are well-served and deeply connected to the field and to PSFC

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Proven track record as a skilled operator, ideally in a small or entrepreneurial organization where you have touched multiple functional areas — including communications, technology, finance and accounting, and customer or member management
    • Experience working in philanthropy or nonprofits, preferably in the areas of mental health, healthcare, policy reform or scientific research (minimum 5 years)
    • Demonstrated experience managing and developing teams, with a reputation as an inspiring, effective leader who brings out the best in people
    • Track record of attracting and retaining talent and building a positive, high-performing team culture
    • Experience in management consulting strongly preferred

    Preferred

    • Genuine interest in and familiarity with the psychedelic field
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to represent PSFC credibly to diverse stakeholders
    • High emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust quickly with members, partners, and colleagues
    • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to prioritize and execute in a rapidly evolving environment
