Reports to: ADI President/Vice President
About the role and objectives:
The Campaigns Director will represent Animal Defenders International and, working closely with senior leadership, advance our strategy and objectives on animal protection at the federal, state and local level, as well as international campaigns and coalitions.
- Devizes effective strategies to bring about lasting change for animals in our core campaign areas, including budgeting.
- Liaises with elected representatives, officials, public, local supporters, donors.
- Public spokesperson; collaborates with media relations team.
- Close collaboration with science, investigations, policy, social media, public relations teams to deliver short and long term objectives.
- Writing, drafting, editing online and hard copy materials: letters, emails, social posts, reports, magazines, marketing and other communications & collateral to engage public, supporters, corporations to take action, support, donate.
Responsibilities include:
- Media and communications: Working with campaigns and media teams to produce material for representatives and governments; briefings, reports, fact sheets; news releases for media, government officials, and representatives.
- ADI US spokesperson works closely with communications, campaigns, and science research teams.
- Planning, development, implementation, and budgeting for campaign strategies: in collaboration with campaigns, research, media teams, and senior leadership.
- Research, Public Messaging: Working with science and communications teams to translate complex information on use of animals in industries and entertainment, to develop effective communications for the public as well as decision makers.
- Website, public presence: collaboration on copy, editing, visuals, development and maintenance of online presence.
- Coalition building: Serves as ADI representative in key coalitions, national, state and local campaigns; building support across campaigns as well as outreach to new ADI supporters.
- Raising Funds:Works closely with development team to build campaigns and activity through raising funds from foundations and individual donors; assistance with donor cultivation and growth, outreach, grants, to increase ADI’s reach, promote our campaigns and raise funds.
- General staff management, recruitment: As a member of the senior management team; participates in recruitment, management of staff and interns; works closely with senior management team on staffing and training programs.
Qualifications and Required Skills:
The successful candidate will have a significant career track record of experience and leadership within the animal protection sector, including campaigns, strategies, liaison with officials and elected representatives, media, in addition to:
- A goal-driven, results-oriented mentality with excellent public speaking, writing and analytical skills with determined enthusiasm for the work.
- Belief in the power of public-based organizations and creating strategies for maximising successful campaigns with committed public engagement.
- A track record of successful marketing/fundraising, at both large and small donor level, including from charitable foundations (although not a fundraising-focus position, the role requires understanding of the campaign activity/cost-covering relationship).
- Experience and confidence being in front of the camera and the ability to speak persuasively in a charged atmosphere.
- Good digital, internet and social skills, e.g. Canva and/or other graphics, MS Office suite, online research services (AI not permitted for writing).
- Working with senior leadership, you will lead campaign planning and strategy.
- Able to lead an international team working across continents and time zones; organized, creative, resourceful; you can deliver objectives.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent (or relevant experience)
- Excellent written English, you create well-researched, impactful and persuasive content for media, elected representatives and public.
- Plant-based lifestyle preferred.
