    Description

    Responsibilities:

    Communications:

    • Newsletter: Produce & email monthly newsletter. Solicit/edit/write pieces
    • Media: Draft press releases, develop media contact lists
    • Recruit/Develop a communications team
    • Create flyers, postcards, images for campaigns and issues
    • Help develop and strengthen communications & messaging strategy
    • Maintain and manage image libraries
    • Help members prepare testimony, letters to the editor, etc

    Digital activism:

    • create/manage letter/petition campaigns on ActionNetwork.org and other platforms
    • Build social media presence, engage allies in issues and campaigns
    • Build email lists and recruit folks into digital and in-person efforts
    • Update websites
    • Develop videos and other advocacy materials

    Development

    • Coordinate planning for several fundraising events
    • Monitor grant calendar and lead in drafting grant reports
    • Help draft & assemble grant applications

    Qualifications:

    Required: Proven & Excellent communicator (written, oral, online, phone), committed to social justice, experience with public policy advocacy, ability to juggle multiple tasks independently on flexible schedule.

    Preference for someone with organizing background, life experiences in common with members of the Alliance for Community Services (people with disabilities, public service workers, caregivers, Medicaid/SNAP consumers, community college), bilingual Spanish.

    15 hours/week to start. Option to expand to 20 hours. Flexible schedule, worked out with supervisor. Work remotely, but some requirements for in-person activities in Illinois (mostly Chicago area or Springfield).

    Salary commensurate with experience and grassroots activism budget. FICA. Paid time off.

    Level of Language Proficiency

    Excellent written, verbal English skills.
