About Us

Initiated by front-line human services caseworkers and people with disabilities, the Alliance for Community Services brings together union and community, consumers and caseworkers, teachers and students, to preserve, expand and improve public services that meet human needs.

Led by grassroots activists and union members, the Alliance uses direct action, advocacy, and leadership development to advance movements for disability justice, worker rights, universal health care, public education, and more.

Recent campaigns and coalitions include:

  • organizing current/former residents of long term care institutions (nursing homes et al.) to transform long term care, increase dignity for facility residents and workers, and enable PWDs and seniors to choose care in their own homes or community-based settings
  • Expanding and improving public health, human services, and mental health clinics
  • Expanding access to community colleges, and increase accountability
  • Reversing attacks on Medicaid, SNAP, and other public services
  • Supporting full funding of human needs and fair contracts for workers
