    Join our Team as an Accounting Payables Manager!

    We’re looking for an experienced, systems-minded Accounts Payable Manager to join our team. In this key role reporting to our Senior Accounting Manager, you’ll bring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency to our payables operations while building strong partnerships across our mission-driven organization. Our accounts payable work is at the heart of what we do – you’ll manage a steady flow of payables across our programs including School Fiscal Services and the Right Now Needs Fund that disburse significant funds to students and families.

    Since 1995, the Alliance for Education has partnered with Seattle Public Schools to address crucial challenges facing students, families, and educators. We’re a nonprofit local education fund with an operating budget of about $6 million per year. Our mission is to support excellence in education by advancing educational justice and racial equity so that every student can thrive. Our collaborative and innovative programs include School Fiscal Services, Right Now Needs Fund, and the Seattle Teacher Residency.

    Who We’re Looking For

    We’re seeking a detail-oriented, solutions-focused professional to serve as our primary expert in accounts payable. The ideal candidate will ensure accurate and timely processing, maintain regulatory compliance, and lead continuous improvement of payables systems and processes. You might be a good fit if you:

    Role-Specific Responsibilities

    Accounts Payable & Compliance

    • Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice entry, coding, approvals, and payment processing.
    • Review staff-submitted invoices and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
    • Monitor outstanding payments, resolve discrepancies, and ensure timely resolution.
    • Maintain compliance with organizational policies and federal and state regulations, including W-9/1099 reporting, sales and use tax, and unclaimed property.
    • Maintain complete and accurate records to support audits and financial reviews.
    • Respond to staff, vendor, and external constituent inquiries related to payables.
    • Maintain and update documentation and user guides for payables processes.

    Payables System Management

    • Serve as the in-house expert for Microix and other payables systems and tools.
    • Configure workflows and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
    • Train and support staff on entering, reviewing, and approving payables.
    • Troubleshoot system issues and coordinate with IT and vendors on updates and enhancements.

    Accounting & Operational Support

    • Assist with reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities.
    • Prepare deposits and support the entry of cash receipts.
    • Generate payables-related reports for internal teams and external stakeholders.

    • Accurate, timely, and compliant processing of all accounts payable transactions.
    • Strong relationships with staff, vendors, and fiscal sponsorship partners.
    • Clear, well-documented payables processes that support audit readiness.
    • Improved efficiency and effectiveness of payables systems and workflows.
    • Increased confidence across the organization in payables operations and support.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
    • 3+ years of progressive experience in accounts payable or accounting.
    • Strong understanding of fund accounting, GAAP, and regulatory compliance.
    • Proven ability to manage complex payables processes independently.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Advanced proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
    • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and analytical problem-solving skills.

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience in nonprofit accounting environments.
    • Experience with MIP Fund Accounting and Microix Payables software.
    • Professional accounting or payables credentials or certifications.
    • Experience supporting diverse work environments and education-focused organizations.

    Employment Details – Location, Pay & Benefits

    This is a hybrid position, with core hours between 8am-6pm PST and in-office days required on Mondays and Thursdays. Our office is in downtown Seattle near light rail and buses. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States – visa sponsorship or transfer is not available.

    The anticipated hiring range for this position is $81,000 – $91,000 annually, based on job-related experience and skills.
