POSITION SUMMARY:
The Organizing Manager is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing and managing PLAN's organizing strategy, supporting organizers in the field, and working closely with progressive partners and coalitions across Nevada. This role will focus on developing and executing comprehensive organizing strategies that advance PLAN's policy priorities and issue-based advocacy work. The Political Organizing Manager will also play a critical role in coordinating with PLAN’s member group organizations and progressive partners, ensuring that organizing efforts align with PLAN’s long-term vision of a more just, equitable, and sustainable Nevada.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategic Organizing and Campaign Oversight (
Approx. 50% FTE)
- Organizing Strategy: Work closely with the Deputy Director and Executive Director to develop and execute organizing strategies and leadership development programs that align with PLAN’s legislative priorities, policy and electoral campaigns, and long-term goals.
- Support Organizers: Supervise and support organizer/s, providing leadership, mentorship, and performance feedback. Ensure team members are meeting goals and achieving key milestones in their organizing work by providing day-to-day management and coaching and ensuring they have the resources, training, and guidance needed to be successful in their campaign/s
- Build Political Power: Work with strategic coalition and progressive partners to build grassroot political power by developing and implementing strategies that recruit, train, and mobilize community leaders, particularly from underrepresented or marginalized communities, to engage in policy advocacy
- Mobilization Tactics: Design and implement mobilization strategies such as phone banking, canvassing, petitioning, rallies, lobby meetings, and digital tactics to generate direct action, win elections, and influence public policy at all levels of government (Federal, State, and Local)
- Partner and Coalition Building (
Approx. 30% FTE)
- Strategic Alliances: Cultivate and maintain relationships with like-minded organizations, coalitions, and movement leaders, ensuring effective coordination in shared campaigns and initiatives.
- Collaboration with Partners: Foster collaborative efforts across local, state, and national progressive organizations to maximize the collective impact of advocacy efforts.
- Coalition Engagement: Coordinate with coalition coordinators and policy team to develop joint strategies, share resources, and support collective actions
- Communications and External Representation (10%)
- Internal and External Communication: Collaborate with PLAN’s communications team to develop messaging and materials that support political organizing campaigns. Ensure that messaging is clear, consistent, resonates with target audiences, and shapes the narrative to center marginalized and working-class Nevadans.
- Public Speaking and Representing PLAN: Along with other team members, represent PLAN at public events, press conferences, and coalition meetings
- Administrative Support and Reporting (10%)
- Campaign Tracking and Reporting: Track and report on the progress of organizing campaigns, ensuring that data is collected, documented, and analyzed by the Data team to assess effectiveness and impact. Provide regular reports to the policy team and leadership on campaign status, challenges, and successes.
- Internal Coordination: Use PLAN’s internal tools and platforms (Google apps, Asana, QuickBooks T-Sheets, Slack, Zoom) to track activities, manage communication, and complete tasks efficiently. Ensure accurate records and reporting for campaigns and events.
- Team Collaboration: Maintain consistent communication with other PLAN staff and partners, attending regular staff meetings and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Operational Support: Maintain accurate project timelines and calendars for organizing efforts, ensuring timely execution of tasks and events. Respond promptly to communications and requests during working hours
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess many, if not all, of the following qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in voter contact and community organizing with established nonprofits, advocacy or political organizations, or related fields with an emphasis on economic, environmental, and immigrant justice
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience managing organizing staff.
- A strong commitment to racial equity and social justice with the ability to talk about identities such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, or gender in plain, specific terms
- Experienced and committed to base-building and leadership development of volunteers
- Excitement for electing progressive candidates up and down the ballot.
- Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, writing, and interpersonal communication that can engage diverse audiences
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency or familiarity with organizer tools like but not limited to VAN, Impactive/Field Tools/Scale to Win, Asana, Google-based applications, Mobilize, and Slack
- Ability to work independently and create a system to keep tasks from slipping through the cracks and meet deadlines on time
- Able to juggle competing demands and prioritize without sacrificing the quality of work. This requires planning backward to make deadlines and asking for help when needed
- Enthusiasm for meeting and engaging with people, especially those communities we work with directly, while ensuring it is done in a culturally competent manner
- Willingness and aptitude to learn new technical and organizing skills
- Written and verbal fluency in Spanish or other languages is a plus.
Benefits
Compensation/Benefits:
$67,000 annual salary (this salary is negotiable). PLAN Action provides 100% employer-paid health care benefits including medical, dental, and vision; 18 state and federal paid holidays, two additional floating holidays; paid summer fridays; as well as generous accrued pay time off
