    Description

    The House Monitor will work to ensure that all LGBTQ+ youth, ages 18 to 24, who are residents of the Wanda Alston Foundation youth transitional housing program are safe, supported, monitored, and cared for respectfully. This position assists the Case Manager and the Operations Manager with implementing tasks, directives, and interventions to help residents meet their case plan goals. The role is essential to ensuring that residents adhere to the program, including the housing rules, policies, and regulations. This position reports to the Operations Manager and is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position. The work schedule for this position is from 3pm-11pm, Monday through Friday.

    Resident Engagement

    • Create opportunities of engagement to support the development of activities of daily living (ADLs).
    • Collaborate with the case manager to develop and monitor individual case plans for residents to provide optimum supportive services.
    • Mentor residents and coordinate services as needed such as making doctor’s appointments, helping with schoolwork, and applying to jobs.
    • Implement strategies to motivate residents’ attendance and participation in life skills workshops, mental health therapy appointments, and other programs.
    • Implement house rules through warm reminders and interactions with the residents.
    • Assist with day-to-day life skills when requested by the youth or the supervisor.
    • Assist and monitor youth with medication needs.

    Facility Oversight

    • Monitor building and facility conditions following agency guidelines for maintenance and coordinate the acquisition of furniture and other household supplies.
    • Assess common areas for general cleanliness and upkeep of the facility and follow cleaning schedules assigned by the supervisor.
    • Sanitize common areas before the end of your shift and, at times, perform light janitorial duties such as sweeping and other housekeeping duties as assigned.
    • Carry out weekly room inspections, monthly fire drills, and emergency procedures in case of an illness or accident.
    • Prepare meals based on the menu calendar assigned by the supervisor.
    • Understand, respond, and adapt to the constantly changing youth housing environment.

    Administrative

    • Complete and submit daily shift note documentation following the Shift Notes format.
    • Read and review shift notes of other staff to learn current information/remain updated on all clients.
    • Complete unusual incident reports when necessary and follow up with DHS and/or TCP.
    • Maintain necessary documentation including but not limited to legible, comprehensive, and accurate reports of housing facility activities.
    • Complete all required and assigned professional development training.
    • Participate in regular supervisory and staff meetings.

    Desired Skills and Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma/GED Required, Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Competency in basic community engagement and medical, social, and practical case management.
    • Experience working directly with LGBTQ+ young adults preferred.
    • Experience working in Group Home living or a Shelter facility preferred.
    • Basic computer skills and great customer service skills.
    • Knowledge of substance abuse/recovery work, family systems, mental health concerns, and suicidality.
    • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and needs and to prioritize and execute tasks efficiently.
    • Sensitivity to the needs and problems of marginalized young adults who are homeless, at risk for homelessness, and who have experienced trauma.
    • Ability to exercise patience and understanding in escalated or crisis situations.
    • Ability to work extra hours and attend meetings/training when needed.

    Physical Requirements:

    This job is primarily sedentary in nature. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use their hands or fingers and utilize a computer or laptop to successfully complete their duties. The employee is occasionally required to sit for prolonged or extended periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in this work environment is usually low to moderate. The employee may occasionally be required to use their hands and fingers to perform janitorial and light cleaning duties

    Other Terms of Employment:

    • Candidates must complete and successfully pass a drug test, alcohol, TB test, sex offender registry check, Child Protection Register check, and criminal background check prior to employment and periodically thereafter.
    • $19.00-$22.00 an hour
    • These duties may be revised and others duties may be assigned as necessary, at any time, with or without notice.
