    Description

    Position Title: Part-Time Adult Basic Education (ABE) Teacher

    Location: Philadelphia, PA (On-site, Hybrid; Potential for both based on learners’ needs)

    Reports To: College & Career Readiness Manager

    Status: Part Time Nonexempt (17 hours per week)

    Hourly Rate: $30/hour

    Position Summary

    The Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructor is responsible for designing and delivering instruction to adult learners to improve foundational skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and digital literacy. The instructor helps learners prepare for transitions into high school equivalency preparation, postsecondary education, training, and employment pathways aligned with the Training Fund’s career pathways model.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assess learners, set goals, track progress, and adapt instruction based on assessment data.
    • Manage classroom and administrative responsibilities including attendance, lesson planning, communicating with students, and reporting outcomes.
    • Incorporate technology effectively, including LMS platforms, MS Office, online meeting tools, and digital learning software.
    • Support diverse learners through culturally responsive, engaging, and evidence-based teaching practices.
    • Attend: Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings at least one Friday per month, quarterly Program Improvement team meetings, and a monthly 1:1 meeting with the College & Career Readiness Manager.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
    • Proficiency with MS Office, learning management systems, online meeting platforms, Adobe tools, and basic troubleshooting.
    • Strong communication skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Must be flexible, organized, and committed to supporting adult learners’ success.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 3–5 years of experience teaching adult learners preferred.

    Schedule & Details

    • 2 part-time positions available.
    • 17 hours per week each (68% classroom time, 30% prep-time, 2% professional development).
    • Evening and weekend availability may be required.
    • Travel to offsite locations may be required.
