Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters (CBBBS) is seeking mission-driven, dedicated and engaging individuals to join our team!
Celebrating its 100th year serving Los Angeles County, CBBBS is a non-faith-based youth mentoring organization seeking part-time Mentoring Specialists.
Position Summary: Under the direction of the organization’s Program Department, this position is responsible for creating and supporting mentoring relationships for youth and connecting families to much-needed community resources.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The responsibilities of the Mentoring Specialist include but are not limited to the following:
- Conducting volunteer enrollments, including individual orientations, trainings, interviews
- Conducting youth and family enrollments including parent/child interviews, child safety education/training, youth outcome development planning
- Conducting mentor/mentee (Big/Little) "Match Introductions"
- Assessing and connecting families for alternative or additional services as needed
- Collaborating with program team members to create and sustain youth outcome development plans for a positive impact
- Monitor and provide mentor/mentee relationship support and coaching, including surveys to determine match satisfaction and positive youth outcomes
- Plan and execute community-building mentor/mentee, and family cultural/recreational events and activities
- Maintain accurate documentation for each mentor/mentee "match" according to BBBSA and agency standards
QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE:
- Associate's Degree or working toward a four-year or two-year degree, or experience in the area of human services, social work, psychology, criminal justice, education, and interest or experience in the areas of youth development, volunteer management, social work, or other related fields and the ability to work with adults, youth and families
- Bilingual/Fluency in Spanish is preferred
- Reimbursable local travel is required; must have a valid CA Driver's License, provide own transportation, and meet driving insurability and background check requirements
- Hybrid home/office work schedule
- Availability and willingness to work regular evening and weekend hours on occasion is required to be accessible and supportive to clients
- Strong verbal/written skills and computer/database proficiency are required. Assessment and relationship development experience with youth and adults, including an understanding of child development and family dynamics. Must have the ability to work with various collaborating agencies, schools, volunteers, parents, and youth groups
- Successful candidates will be passionate about the Big Brothers Big Sisters mission; positive, adaptable, team-oriented, proactive, and highly skilled at building and sustaining strong and enduring relationships
- Team members receive high-level local and national training opportunities; certification curriculum available
