Children Rising is hiring several part-time Program Coordinators for the 2026–27 school year to support our literacy, math, and family engagement programs in Oakland schools.

Our Program Coordinators are at the center of what happens each week. They help create welcoming, well-organized tutoring clinics where elementary students receive consistent one-on-one support, volunteer tutors have the guidance and resources they need, and our program teams can respond to each child’s progress and needs.

What you’ll do

As a Program Coordinator, you will help coordinate two or more weekly tutoring clinics at Oakland school sites. Responsibilities include:

• Preparing clinic spaces and materials so tutoring sessions can begin on time and run smoothly.
• Helping students get to and from their classrooms for tutoring.
• Supporting volunteer tutors with scheduling, coaching, lesson planning, materials, encouragement, and student needs.
• Creating an atmosphere of trust, cooperation, and learning for students, tutors, and families.
• Monitoring student progress and tutor-student relationships and working with program leadership to address challenges.
• Tracking attendance and maintaining accurate student and tutor records.
• Update student and tutor information in Salesforce.
• Collaborating with FamilyBridge staff to help connect tutoring, classroom learning, and support at home.
• Coordinate with school staff, teachers, and other Children Rising team members as needed.
• Participate in program meetings, staff meetings, and special events.

You may be a great fit if you:

• Have two or more years of relevant education experience.
• Enjoy working directly with children and helping them learn and grow.
• Communicate well and build positive relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds.
• Are organized, dependable, and comfortable managing details.
• Can respond constructively to student behavior and learning challenges.
• Have experience with program evaluation, data tracking, or similar systems.
• Have experience working with diverse communities.

Experience supporting English-language learners or an understanding of the impact of trauma on early-childhood learning is a plus.

Position details

• Part-time: approximately 10–20 hours per week during the academic year.
• Location: Primarily at Oakland school sites, with some work at the Children Rising office and remotely.
• Schedule: Primarily weekday hours during the school day.
• Requirements: Live Scan background clearance, negative TB status, a valid driver’s license, and regular access to a car.

Children Rising helps Oakland elementary students strengthen foundational reading and math skills through consistent one-on-one tutoring and family engagement.

Through Succeeding by Reading, Path2Math, and FamilyBridge, students are surrounded by caring adults working together to help them become more confident and engaged learners.

English proficiency is required; Spanish or Arabic proficiency is a plus.
