    Description

Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice (IMIrJ)

Location: Portland, OR (Hybrid / Remote with local availability)

    About the Role

At IMIrJ, accompaniment is not just a program—it’s a movement building.

We organize community members to show up alongside migrants navigating some of the most difficult moments in the immigration system: court dates, ICE check-ins, detention-related processes, and other high-stakes situations. This work is relational, urgent, and rooted in the belief that no one should face these systems alone.

We are looking for an Accompaniment Program Organizer who can help hold and grow this work—someone who is grounded in immigrant justice, can coordinate many moving parts, and is able to show up with care, clarity, and responsiveness in moments that matter.

    What You’ll Do

    • Coordinate accompaniment requests in the Portland metro area, connecting community members, volunteers, and partner organizations
    • Share on-call responsibilities, including occasional early mornings and urgent in-person response
    • Build relationships with migrant communities and follow up after accompaniment
    • Recruit, support, and coordinate volunteers
    • Help lead trainings, workshops, and community outreach
    • Strengthen systems that allow the program to run smoothly and sustainably
    • Collaborate with partners in deportation defense and broader migrant justice efforts

    What This Work Requires

This role sits at the intersection of organizing and direct service. It requires:

    • Fluency in English and Spanish (spoken and written)
    • Experience in community organizing, grassroots work, or direct service
    • Understanding of U.S. immigration and deportation systems
    • Strong coordination and communication skills
    • Cultural humility and a commitment to language justice
    • Ability to respond in time-sensitive or high-pressure situations

While this is a hybrid role, candidates must be based in (or willing to relocate without relocation assistance to) the Portland metro area, as some on-call situations require in-person response on a short notice.

    What We Offer

    • Starting wage of $32.55/hour, with union scale differentials
    • Health insurance, paid time off, and holidays
    • Flexible work policies
    • Union membership with ILWU Local 5
    • A collaborative, mission-driven team
    • The opportunity to contribute meaningfully to immigrant justice work in Oregon

    A Note on Fit

This role is for someone who believes in solidarity—not charity. Someone who can build trust across communities, hold complexity, and stay grounded in values even in urgent situations.

If you’re someone who can organize people, respond with care under pressure, and is committed to building collective power alongside migrant communities, we encourage you to apply.
