    Description

    Join our dedicated organizing team in the Philadelphia area! UNITE HERE! Local 634 represents the Food Service Workers and Student Climate Staff of the Philadelphia School District. We are seeking a Lead Organizer who will identify, recruit, develop and train worker leaders, build active worker organizing committees, and work with local organizations and community members to help improve the lives of our members through the power of the Union.

    Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

    • Identify and develop worker-leaders through one-on-one communication.
    • Build and maintain worker committees.
    • Organize and lead worker committee meetings.
    • Help to organize and run large actions.
    • Perform administrative tasks necessary for worker organizing such as maintaining database, producing materials and correspondence.
    • Political organizing, as needed.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • At least 3+ years of organizing experience.
    • Works independently, uses good judgment, and is adaptable to change.
    • Dedication to social and economic justice, and specifically to building a strong and robust Union.
    • Organizing experience, particularly in building unity within a diverse group, and inspiring others to take action.
    • Good with people; a clear and effective speaker and leader.
    • Knows and can speak on their path to leadership.
    • Must be a team player.
    • Ability to map, organize a program, and understand turf.
    • Willing and able to travel to appropriate work sites, and to occasionally work weekends and irregular hours.
    • Valid driver’s license required. Access to car preferred.
    • Spanish and English fluency preferred.
    • Must have a strong knowledge of Philadelphia and its communities.
