    About PALS Programs

PALS is a growing nonprofit that creates inclusive camp experiences for individuals with and without Down syndrome. Our programs are led by young, inspiring volunteers and have been designed to change attitudes, transform lives, and inspire a world of belonging. As an organization committed to a more inclusive world, we recognize the importance of having our community reflect the areas we serve. The need for young people - both with and without Down syndrome to find connection and purpose— is more important now than ever.

    Position Overview

The Regional Program Coordinator at PALS Programs supports the operational aspects of our camp in a key region, ensuring that each program runs smoothly from enrollment to execution. This individual will work on a regional team with a manager and one other coordinator, supporting and growing all the efforts in the region. This role is critical to the success of our mission, providing support across various functions, coordinating with other regional staff as well as central employees, and ensuring an exceptional experience for all participants and staff. As PALS transitions to a new strategic plan, we will be hiring Regional teams in each of our four areas and are looking for individuals who can be flexible and adapt as the plan builds and each regional team grows into its final form.

    Key Areas of Responsibility

    • Support the day-to-day operations of the regional team, working in collaboration to foster relationships and establish PALS as a trusted local organization
    • Work to recruit and enroll participants with Down syndrome - offering excellent customer service, connecting with local support organizations, and attending regional events to share about and promote the organization as needed
    • Support volunteer recruitment and training - building a recruitment pipeline through local schools and universities, conducting interviews, and providing training opportunities to prepare volunteers for their roles at camp
    • Review and collaborate with volunteer leaders on building program schedules - ensuring high-quality program offerings, thoughtful activities, and an intentionality in connecting with local community partners
    • Track and update key program data such as enrollment, cancellations, and waitlists, ensuring accuracy across internal systems
    • Support the tracking of all forms, tuition, travel fund, and budget expenses for all California participants and programs
    • Contribute to continuous-improvement efforts by gathering feedback and supporting on-site program operations to ensure mission alignment.
    • During summer, serves as the camp site Program Administrator, proactively identifying key needs and providing 24/7 on-site program support for weeklong camp(s).
    • Report to the Regional Manager and take on additional responsibilities as needed

Skills & Experience we are looking for:

    • Completion of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field
    • Experience working collaboratively on a remote or distributed team, as well as experience in education, non-profit, camp, or youth setting
    • A team player who can work well and manage our valued relationships with families, participants, volunteer leaders, donors, supporters and more. We are looking for someone who recognizes that PALS success rests on our staff team as a whole, and not any one contributor.
    • An effective communicator - in person, via email, on video chat, or at public events.
    • Someone prepared to travel to experience PALS in person as much as possible.
    • The ability to react with professionalism and confidence when new situations arise; someone who can meet deadlines and manage simultaneous projects.
    • An individual who is self-motivated and proactive, willing to take on multiple responsibilities and balance several projects simultaneously
    • Flexibility - the willingness to adjust their schedule to meet with our volunteers and/or families as needed.
    • Be structured and creative. Working for PALS at this stage in our life cycle requires someone who is able to build and execute within strong processes and structures, and someone who is willing and able to think creatively and experiment with new ways of engaging our community.
    • We need someone comfortable with technology needed to do this job including, but not limited to Google suite, Asana, Slack, and Zoom.
    • A strong belief in the PALS mission. Working for PALS requires a connection to our mission. This might be experience in the Down syndrome or disability community or a strong passion for inclusive communities. PALS is personal for so many of us, and we refer to that motivation as our “Why PALS.” We want you to bring that “Why PALS” to work with you every day, and we will ensure you have lots of opportunities to get to know our community and find your personal connection in the work.

    Terms & Compensation

This is an exempt, full-time position according to the FLSA, with an expectation of approximately 40 hours/week and a salary range of $55,000-60,000. While PALS office hours are generally 9 am - 5 pm PT, work hours may vary depending on time and season. Occasionally, our young volunteer leaders meet with staff in the evening, or we host weekend events, and employees are encouraged to flex their time to accommodate these needs.

The employee will work remotely and is expected to have a dedicated workspace for phone calls, video conferences, and independent work. This position will require travel to at least two-three weeks of programming on location during the summer months, and should be prepared for on-call support. Our regional roles will operate in a hybrid fashion, where we will expect employees to be out visiting and engaging on-site with our community partners in addition to working out of their home office. PALS will provide the employee with a laptop, a generous PTO policy, monthly reimbursement for internet/phone, and a monthly reimbursement for healthcare premiums.

PALS is a fully remote team, and this regional position must live and work in California. PALS is prioritizing applicants from Northern California, specifically San Francisco, San Jose, and the greater Bay Area.

    Equal Opportunity Employer

PALS is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workspace. We recognize that this takes consistent work and are committed to continual improvement. We believe that diverse ideas, cultures, and traditions reflect the broad diversity of the U.S. and are essential to building our vision of a community of belonging. PALS encourages applicants to describe in their cover letter the unique contributions they, as individuals with diverse experiences, would bring to the organization. We particularly encourage BIPOC (Black people, Indigenous peoples, and People of Color) to apply.
