About United Way of New York City

United Way of New York City (UWNYC) works with a coalition of trusted partners to unite community power with citywide possibility. Together, we meet today’s most urgent needs while building transformative solutions for tomorrow — striving for health, opportunity, and prosperity for every New Yorker in every neighborhood. Part of the United Way Worldwide system, one of the world’s most recognized charitable brands, we believe that New Yorkers deserve to thrive where they live and envision a future where all New Yorkers have the resources they need to live long, healthy lives in flourishing and resilient neighborhoods. We strive to model our values in all our relationships, both internal and external: Collaboration, Compassion, Integrity, Accountability, and Superior Performance.

    About the Role

United Way of New York City is seeking a strategic, hands-on leader to strengthen the systems, processes, technology, and analytics supporting our fundraising efforts.

Reporting to the Vice President, Resource Development, the Director will oversee fundraising operations, gift administration, donor systems, prospect research, campaign operations, data governance, and fundraising analytics.

Working across Resource Development, Finance, Information Technology, Marketing and Communications, and executive leadership, the Director will improve operational efficiency, strengthen data integrity, reduce key-person dependencies, and deliver insights that support fundraising strategy and the donor experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement the operational strategy supporting Resource Development priorities and annual fundraising goals.
    • Oversee gift processing, acknowledgments, tax receipts, pledges, campaign coding, donor recognition, and stewardship operations.
    • Maintain accurate records for gifts received through checks, credit cards, wires, stock, third-party portals, events, and other United Way chapters.
    • Partner with Finance on revenue reconciliation, financial controls, month-end and year-end closing, audits, and discrepancy resolution.
    • Ensure the integrity, security, governance, and effective use of the donor database as the organization’s system of record.
    • Oversee database integrations, imports, exports, upgrades, testing, and new functionality.
    • Manage external CRM consultants, fundraising technology vendors, and managed-service providers.
    • Develop prospect research, donor profiles, portfolio reporting, moves management, fundraising forecasts, and executive dashboards.
    • Analyze fundraising performance, donor behavior, campaign effectiveness, and revenue trends to provide actionable recommendations.
    • Establish scalable policies, procedures, workflows, data standards, and training materials.
    • Evaluate artificial intelligence, automation, and other technologies that could improve fundraising operations.
    • Collaborate with Finance, Information Technology, and Marketing and Communications on systems, reporting, integrations, and donor communications.
    • Prepare fundraising reports and presentations for executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and Board committees.

    Qualifications

    • At least seven years of experience in fundraising operations, development services, donor systems, or philanthropy operations within a nonprofit organization.
    • Demonstrated expertise administering, optimizing, and governing Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT.
    • Experience with gift administration, donor data governance, prospect research, fundraising analytics, revenue recognition, and financial reconciliation.
    • Demonstrated success improving systems, workflows, and business processes.
    • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and organizational change.
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 skills.
    • Strong analytical, project-management, communication, organizational, and relationship-management skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy, sound judgment, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
    • Bachelor’s degree required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in a related field.
    • Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT certification.
    • Experience with workplace giving and third-party giving platforms.
    • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Omatic, Microsoft Power Platform, or similar tools.
