    Description

    Attorney Network Coordinator

    Partnership for Civil Justice Fund

Center for Protest Law & Litigation

    • Priority Deadline: October 15th

Full-time position, geographically remote in Eastern time zone. Preference given for location in Washington, D.C. The Washington, D.C. office operates on a hybrid schedule.

Who We Are and What We Do:

The Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF) brings high-impact free speech, civil rights and constitutional rights litigation and provides criminal defense to those who are targeted for prosecution because of their First Amendment-protected viewpoints and advocacy for justice. We protect and advance the rights of protestors to organize, assemble, and demand justice around the country.

For over 30 years, the PCJF has been a leading voice in the legal fight to defend democracy and advance constitutional rights and social justice by litigating landmark civil rights, civil liberties, and First Amendment cases and by providing legal defense to justice movement organizations and activists targeted for their First Amendment-protected speech and activities. Our litigation work is integrated with outreach, education, and advocacy in partnership with other civil rights lawyers, affected communities, activists, and organizations in racial, social, and environmental justice movements. Our work is focused ultimately on creating meaningful social, political, and legal changes and dismantling systems of repression.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., with a West Coast office in the Bay Area, we litigate around the country.

    The Position

We are hiring an Attorney Network Coordinator to join our team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, mission-driven, multi-tasker who has excellent attention to detail.

The Attorney Network Coordinator will administer and support a selective network of attorneys who collaborate and share information on cases, litigation strategies, and related legal initiatives defending democracy, the right to protest, and First Amendment protections. The Coordinator manages the network’s communications technology platform and its specific subgroups; works with the legal team to evaluate and verify attorney admission to the Network; responds to requests for legal assistance; facilitates mentoring and co-counsel relationships; assists participating attorneys in sharing and locating relevant litigation resources; and coordinates with other organizations’ personnel administering sister attorney networks.

The position requires the ability to understand distinctions in types of legal proceedings, jurisdictions, legal needs, and practice areas. Previous experience and work in a legal environment, experience with protest movements, and aligned advocacy are a plus.

We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, team-centric environment and is a dynamic self-starter. The Attorney Network Coordinator will work closely with the Executive and Legal Directors as well as Senior Counsel.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Administer the day-to-day operations of a curated network of attorneys organized around designated practice areas, litigation matters, jurisdictions, or subject areas.
    • Exercise exceptional judgment and care in administering access, membership, communications, and information-sharing protocols in a confidential and privileged environment.
    • Demonstrate keen understanding of the underlying concepts of legal information protections and strictly follow instructions, protocols, and processes as will be directed, seeking clarification if any need arises.
    • Establish, maintain, and update attorney records, subgroup assignments, practice-area classifications, jurisdictional information, case, and participation status.
    • Maintain accurate records concerning network applications, approvals, denials, invitations, referrals, requests for assistance, and other material network activities.
    • Monitor participation and engagement, identify gaps in geographic or substantive coverage, prepare periodic reports and metric analysis, and recommend appropriate recruitment or network-development strategies.
    • Administer the network’s digital collaboration platform, including user accounts, permissions, subgroup architecture, matter-specific workspaces, discussion channels, and document repositories.
    • Implement access restrictions, naming conventions, confidentiality notices, and other platform protocols established by supervising counsel.
    • Confirm completion of required onboarding documents, confidentiality undertakings, common-interest or joint-defense agreements before granting access; review user permissions periodically and promptly modify, suspend, or terminate access when an attorney no longer satisfies membership criteria, or otherwise becomes ineligible.
    • Assist users with secure platform access, account configuration, subgroup navigation, document retrieval, and compliance with approved communication and information handling practices.
    • Verify each applicant’s identity and other bar and licensure information; review dockets and other information to assess active practice and experience; conduct periodic re-verification of continued eligibility.
    • Receive, organize, and assess incoming requests for attorney assistance, referrals, consultation, local counsel, co-counsel, mentorship, or other litigation support and administer per internal protocols.
    • Administer or support a controlled repository of briefs, pleadings, motions, memoranda, research materials, exemplars, and other approved litigation resources.
    • Maintain accurate descriptions, permissions, version information, and organizational tags; identify outdated, duplicative, or improperly classified materials and refer them for review, correction, restriction, or removal.
    • Assess attorney requests to identify potentially responsive materials based on legal issue, claim or defense, procedural posture, jurisdiction, court, case type, and document type; track recurring resource requests and recommend improvements to the repository’s organization and coverage.
    • Coordinate with other organizations’ personnel managing complementary networks;
    • Perform other duties reasonably related to the position’s essential functions, as assigned.

    Key Requirements and Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant professional experience.
    • Two (2) years of experience in professional-network administration, litigation support, law firm or legal team administration, or a related field.
    • Understanding of litigation terminology, court structures, attorney roles, and the general process of both civil and criminal matters.
    • Demonstrated ability to administer technology platforms, databases, collaboration environments, document repositories, or comparable systems with segmented permissions and user groups.
    • Strong judgment and discretion in handling confidential, sensitive, and potentially privileged information.
    • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple requests, deadlines, stakeholders, and workflows simultaneously.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate credibly and diplomatically with attorneys of varying experience levels, internal leadership, and external partners.
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, particularly in evaluating attorney qualifications, matching resources to requests, maintaining accurate records, and administering access controls.
    • Ability to work independently within established parameters, recognize issues requiring legal or supervisory review, and escalate those issues promptly.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent judgment.
    • Rigorous attention to detail.

    Preferred Qualifications and Skills

    • Juris Doctor degree, paralegal training, legal studies education, or substantial experience working directly with litigators.
    • Experience working within social justice movements.
    • Experience administering matter-specific workspaces, permission structures, secure communication channels, and document repositories.
    • Familiarity with common-interest and joint-defense arrangements, attorney-client confidentiality, attorney work product, and secure information-sharing practices.
    • Experience organizing brief banks, knowledge-management collections, litigation templates, or legal-resource repositories.
    • Experience coordinating across multiple organizations, networks, practice groups, or geographically dispersed teams.
