Chapter and Walk Manager - Western Region

Part Time/20 Hours per week/Western Region Preferred - Arizona, Washington, Nevada

    About Us

Cure JM Foundation is dedicated to finding better treatments and cure for juvenile myositis (JM), a rare childhood autoimmune disease, and improving the lives of families impacted by the disease.

We are seeking a strong communicator and relationship builder who will develop a deep passion for increasing awareness of juvenile myositis, a rare childhood disease, while engaging and supporting families affected by JM through community based fundraising and chapter leadership.

The Chapter and Walk Manager plays an important role in growing Cure JM’s grassroots community by managing assigned Walk Strong events, strengthening local chapters, recruiting families for educational and community-building events, and developing meaningful relationships with families, volunteers, donors, hospitals, and community partners.

The Walk and Chapter Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to strengthen chapter leadership, increase participation and fundraising outcomes, and ensure consistency across Walk Strong events. This role establishes annual goals, timelines, and support plans for chapters, provides guidance and training to volunteer leaders, and collaborates with internal teams to deliver high quality events and meaningful community engagement.

This position will be remote and will have primary responsibility for assigned western-region events and community engagement. The ideal candidate is proactive, self-directed, and comfortable balancing event execution, fundraising, family outreach, and year-round relationship management in a part-time role.

    In this role you will:

    • Be the lead program manager for the chapters and walks in your region
    • Plan, manage and execute all aspects of the organization's walk events, which are key components of our fundraising and community engagement strategies.
    • Engage and inspire volunteers and donors
    • Travel to chapter events and walks in each of the chapters supported. This travel amounts to 2-3 days of travel and approximately 6-10 trips per year, as mutually agreed upon by all parties.

    Specific responsibilities include:

    1. Walk and Event Planning & Management
    • Lead the planning and execution of assigned Walk Strong events, including logistics, budgeting, timelines, vendor coordination, venue management, and event-day operations.
    • Develop and manage event timelines, ensuring milestones and deliverables are completed on schedule.
    • Coordinate with volunteers, vendors, venues, sponsors, and internal staff to deliver high-quality events.
    • Establish event goals and implement plans to increase participation, fundraising, sponsorship, and community involvement.
    • Conduct post-event evaluations and prepare reports identifying financial results, participant feedback, successes, and opportunities for improvement.
    1. Western Region Development & Community Engagement
    • Manage assigned Walk Strong events and chapter activities in the western United States, with a focus on building and strengthening Cure JM’s presence in the region.
    • Build relationships with local families, pediatric hospitals, physicians, community organizations, businesses, and potential sponsors.
    • Identify opportunities to expand participation in existing markets and develop engagement in new communities.
    • Recruit and cultivate local volunteers and committee members who can help grow fundraising and community awareness.
    • Represent Cure JM professionally at regional events and community meetings.
    • Travel to assigned events and walks, as mutually agreed upon, approximately 6–10 trips annually, typically involving 2–3 days of travel per trip.
    1. Family Day Recruitment & Planning
    • Lead recruitment and outreach efforts for Cure JM Family Days and other assigned family engagement events.
    • Develop and execute recruitment plans using email, text messaging, personalized family outreach, reminder calls, hospital and physician networks, and other appropriate communication channels.
    • Coordinate event logistics, timelines, registration, speakers, venues, and communication with participating families and clinical partners.
    • Collaborate with physicians and members of Cure JM’s Clinical Care Network to support educational programming and opportunities for families to connect.
    • Create welcoming experiences that help newly diagnosed and newly connected families feel supported and introduce them to the broader Cure JM community.
    • Encourage participation from both new and existing families, with a goal of strengthening relationships and increasing ongoing engagement.
    • Conduct post-event follow-up to gather feedback, maintain relationships, connect families with resources, and identify opportunities for continued involvement.
    1. Family & Community Stewardship
    • Implement a year-round stewardship plan for assigned chapters, walks, families, participants, volunteers, and donors.
    • Maintain consistent communication with families throughout the year, not just during walk season.
    • Develop and coordinate personalized outreach, appreciation messages, milestone communications, event follow-ups, and other meaningful touchpoints.
    • Build relationships with new families, helping them connect with other families, local chapter leaders, educational resources, and opportunities to participate in Cure JM activities.
    • Cultivate existing families and volunteers to encourage continued involvement, peer-to-peer fundraising, leadership development, and community advocacy.
    • Recognize and thank donors, team captains, top fundraisers, sponsors, and volunteers in a timely and meaningful manner.
    • Track engagement and follow-up activities to identify families and supporters who may benefit from additional outreach or opportunities to become more involved.
    • Collaborate with the broader development team to support donor retention and long-term fundraising growth.
    1. Fundraising & Sponsorship
    • Develop and implement strategies to meet or exceed fundraising goals for assigned walks and events.
    • Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with local corporate sponsors, individual donors, businesses, and community partners.
    • Develop sponsorship proposals and materials and coordinate sponsor recognition and fulfillment.
    • Identify local and regional grant opportunities, fundraising partnerships, and other sources of community support.
    • Monitor fundraising progress and provide regular updates to walk leadership and internal staff.
    • Support participants and team captains with fundraising resources, coaching, and personalized outreach to improve fundraising results.
    1. Volunteer & Chapter Leadership
    • Recruit, train, and support volunteer committees for assigned walks and chapter activities.
    • Establish clear volunteer roles, responsibilities, goals, and timelines.
    • Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative culture among volunteer leaders.
    • Provide ongoing guidance and resources to help volunteers succeed in fundraising, recruitment, and community engagement.
    • Identify potential future chapter leaders and volunteers through Family Days, walks, and ongoing family outreach.
    • Develop volunteer appreciation strategies that strengthen relationships and encourage long-term participation.
    1. Marketing, Communications & Participant Engagement
    • Develop and distribute event communications, flyers, sponsorship materials, recruitment messages, and other promotional resources.
    • Engage local hospitals, physicians, families, and community partners to increase event awareness and participation.
    • Build and maintain relationships with walk participants, team captains, top fundraisers, and community supporters.
    • Coordinate pre-event activities, including kickoff meetings, fundraising workshops, and team-building opportunities, as appropriate.
    • Ensure participants have access to the tools, resources, and information needed to create fundraising pages, share their stories, and maximize fundraising success.
    1. Budget Management, Reporting & Administration
    • Develop and manage event budgets, monitor expenses, and support cost-effective use of organizational resources.
    • Work with the finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting and post-event reconciliation.
    • Maintain accurate records of family engagement, participant outreach, stewardship activities, sponsors, volunteers, and event outcomes.
    • Track key performance indicators related to fundraising, participation, Family Day recruitment, stewardship, and chapter growth.
