    Position Overview

    The Development Officer’s primary responsibility is to steward and grow the major donor portfolios for our Washington, DC, and New Orleans regions, and to serve as the primary point of contact for regional foundation funders. The Development Officer will be located in the DC area and reports to the Director of Individual Giving.

    Specific Responsibilities Include:

    • Grow and manage a portfolio of DC and NOLA-based donors through moves management activities, including cultivation, solicitation, thanking, and ongoing stewardship;
    • Identify and pursue DC donor prospects, and follow up on any leads regarding NOLA prospects;
    • Manage the DC Advisory Council, including running bi-monthly meetings, and engaging members as ambassadors in development efforts;
    • Support the NOLA Program Director in running the NOLA Advisory Council (AC) and their quarterly meetings; prepare development-related content for NOLA AC meetings, work in collaboration with the NOLA Program Director and existing NOLA AC on leadership pipeline for the NOLA AC, and attend virtual NOLA AC meetings;
    • Plan and implement at least two DC-specific stakeholder meetings/programs/small events annually;
    • Support NOLA AC members/stakeholders in hosting parlor meetings;
    • Manage the CEO’s portfolio in NOLA and DC;
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for regional foundation funders, with support from the Director of Institutional Giving;
    • Visit NOLA as needed (approximately one time annually) to meet with donors and/or help manage a donor engagement opportunity in collaboration with the NOLA Program Director and/or CEO;
    • Collaborate with DC and NOLA Program Directors to stay updated on local programs, to be able to update local stakeholders and invite them to local events;
    • Attend Jewish Federation of Greater Washington meetings;
    • Invite DC and NOLA donors to national programs/events/calls;
    • Visit the DC mailbox at least every other month; and
    • Other duties as assigned.

    About you: We are looking for candidates who have at least 3 years of relevant experience, as well the skills and competencies listed below.     • You are an experienced fundraiser who can effectively cultivate and steward relationships with major donors.
    • You are a collaborative team-player and strong relationship builder who can work with staff across the country, build local relationships, and cultivate a strong funder community locally.
    • You are accountable for your own work and are a strong project manager. You juggle competing demands, prioritize with ease, and are efficient with your time. You are comfortable with deadlines.
    • You have a deep understanding of and connections to the local Jewish and/or social justice landscape and are able to attend occasional community events as a representative of Avodah.
    • You are able to travel at least once annually as required to manage your portfolio and collaborate with national staff.

    Accessibility

    The interview process will be conducted entirely remotely via phone and video conferencing. The applicant may be asked to complete a compensated skills assessment as well, which will be done via video conferencing.

    This role includes in person work responsibilities such as traveling around the DC metro area for meetings with donors, participants and stakeholders, hosting Advisory Council meetings and donor events, and attending other local programs and events. Events hosted in DC for development purposes may require the Development Officer to do minor physical activities such as standing, and moving and arranging furniture and materials at events. This role also requires travel to New Orleans at least one time per year to meet with donors and perform similar event-related tasks.

    This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit, which has a Collective Bargaining Agreement in effect.
