Approximately 60% of the role is focused on fund-raising/development and 40% on community outreach and operating responsibilities such as programming, volunteer coordination and administrative tasks.

In addition to year-round fundraising, the ED will be responsible for planning and managing the annual benefit and other fundraising events, development (including Board-level recruiting), and grant writing.

Other responsibilities include planning waterfront programming (such as music and art-related events), oversight of landscaping and Esplanade-sponsored public art projects, advocacy, coordination with community and other related parks and advocacy organizations, elected officials and community boards, and general management of the non-profit's day to day operations. Regular communication with the public through social media and other channels as well as regular communication with the Board is also an important aspect of the job.
