Organization Overview
The Benji Project (TBP) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to teach proven mindfulness and self-compassion tools to young people and their families and communities. Through classes, workshops and camps, we build capacity for stress management and emotional resilience. Our vision is to see young people thrive while navigating life's ups and downs with resilience.
The Benji Project upholds these values:
- We honor the common humanity of mental and emotional struggle, while recognizing that each person’s life experience is unique.
- We believe that mental health is integral to individual and community well-being.
- We dedicate ourselves to fostering a sense of belonging among all youth in our community, especially those whose voices are less often heard.
- We use evidence-based programs and innovative approaches to respond to the needs of our community.
- We seek to embody mindfulness and compassion in our interactions with ourselves and those we serve.
Position Overview
TBP seeks compassionate individuals interested in joining our team as part-time instructors of Mindful Self-Compassion for youth and families in Clallam and Jefferson Counties. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds.
Once hired, instructors receive a 10-week online training through the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion, (centerformsc.org/lomsc). There are multiple scheduling options for this training. While completing the formal training, instructors-in-training will have the opportunity to assist with Benji Project programs. They will receive additional local training in the youth-specific versions of the Mindful Self-Compassion curriculum.
We seek individuals interested in making a commitment of a minimum of two years to the organization. The teaching schedule varies, but an instructor could expect to work an average of 15-20 hours per month. There are potential growth opportunities available for those interested in additional administrative and program coordination opportunities.
In addition to running after-school sessions and summer camps, The Benji Project partners with school districts to offer in-school workshops to upper elementary, middle, and high school students. This role requires scheduling flexibility across school-day, after-school, and evening time slots; occasional weekend availability for special events may be requested.
