    CANCUS Hub Programs Manager

    Reports to: Wikimedia NYC Executive Director. This role will be housed at Wikimedia New York City but the job responsibilities are solely for program management of the regional Wikimedia CANCUS (Canada, Caribbean, and U.S.) Hub.

    Time Commitment: 32 hours a week. The role will require some evening and weekend work.

    Start Date: June 2026

    Location: Remote but must live in the United States of America

    Compensation: $60,000 a year and healthcare benefits

    About the CANCUS Hub

    The Wikimedia Community in Canada, the Caribbean, and the United States is large, diverse, and has unique regional needs that a regional hub can help coordinate. The CANCUS Hub will support the field in facilitating collaboration, contributing diverse content, and increasing capacity and skills amongst the Wikimedia community. The Hub will provide services, resources, and capacity building opportunities to build community across regional differences and improve the impact of contributors, affiliates, and user groups across the U.S., Canada, and Caribbean.

    Wikimedia NYC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and local Wikimedia chapter that brings New York together to share in a richer and more representative free knowledge ecosystem. Wikimedia NYC will be the supervising organization for this position, supporting employee payments and benefits, employee policies and procedures, legal and tax compliance, and role oversight.

    Job Description

    The CANCUS Hub Programs Manager is a new role which will focus, develop, and scale the hub’s efforts to engage and recruit new Wikimedia contributors and to support existing Wikimedia groups and contributors in the region with training to sustain the long term goals of the movement. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the strategy, practices, and programs for a regional hub within the Wikimedia free knowledge movement.

    Main responsibilities include:

    1. Programmatic strategy: Develop the programmatic strategy to achieve the Hub’s goals; work with the Hub Administrative Manager, Hub Steering Committee, and relevant stakeholders to develop the program calendar, conceptualize training events; and track program outcomes.
    2. Community building: Organize and support an intersectional community of Wikimedians, community leaders, and Wikimedia affiliates, chapters, and user groups to build and deepen their relationships and utilize the resources of the hub to expand their skills and reach.
    3. Engagement: Lead the hub’s educational, training, and organizing work within the regional Wikimedia community. Manage and produce educational and leadership development programming and partnerships to support the growth of Wikimedians and Wikimedia groups in the region.

    Deliverables include:

    • Implement community engagement strategies through detailed and proactive program management.
    • Facilitate region-wide gatherings that engage Wikimedia contributors, including users with extended rights, and strengthen their organizing skills.
    • Support knowledge and information exchange between Wikimedia communities across North America.
    • Research, steward, and support the management of relationships within the regional Wikimedia community.
    • Lead on monthly NARWHAL calls and support the movement with implementing next steps from each call.
    • Manage day-to-day operations, production, and logistics for all programs.
    • Collaborate with the Wikimedia Foundation and Hub Steering Committee on the rapid fund grants process.
    • Coordinate program evaluation, including impact tracking and reporting.
    • Attend monthly meetings with the Wikimedia Foundation Hubs team.
    • Work closely with Wikimedia NYC, Wikimedia Canada, the Hub Administrative Manager, and the Hub Steering Committee to implement the programs strategy for the Hub.

    Must haves:

    • Demonstrates deep understanding, passion, and alignment with the mission of Wikimedia.
    • Experience with Wikimedia platforms like Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata etc. and/or a deep desire and willingness to learn.
    • Program development and management experience, with a focus on community building and leadership development.
    • 3+ years of related experience in the nonprofit sector, social movements or the Wikimedia movement.
    • Strong project management skills and a sharp attention to detail.
    • Comfortable managing multiple workstreams
    • Positive attitude and tolerance of ambiguity when working with volunteers.
    • Can communicate clearly with colleagues and external audiences.
    • Ability to roll with the punches in an ever-shifting movement landscape.
    • Must adhere to the Wikimedia Universal Code of Conduct.
