Compensation: $18.50/hr
Term: early-June - mid/late-August 2026, flexible
Expectation: 20 - 30 hours per week

Description:
Interns at the Trust for the National Mall support the implementation of the Trust's goals and strategies by serving in one of the following focus areas: Marketing and Communications, Philanthropy, or Programs. Interns will gain an understanding of the complex operations of a nonprofit and will have the opportunity to participate in diverse projects while learning and gaining skills to support their career aspirations. While the focus areas give an overview of projects, incumbents may support work from other focus areas as interested and available.
Intern Focus Areas:
- Marketing and Communications: As part of this team, the Marketing and Communications intern will assist in the day-to-day management of the Trust's digital communications by creating and refining content. The intern will work closely with the marketing and communications, philanthropy, and events teams to engage a broad audience with the Trust's mission and will help support annual traditions on the National Mall.
- Responsibilities: monitoring media coverage and updating media lists, performing website updates, building National Mall photo library, developing content for external communication vehicles, aiding in development of the Trust's communications calendar, preparing social media communications and tracking social engagement, and assisting in event research and preparation.
- Philanthropy: Working closely with the Philanthropy team, the Philanthropy Intern will support the day-to-day fundraising activities of the Philanthropy team. This internship will provide an opportunity to gain broad exposure to nonprofit fundraising. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented and interested in learning about nonprofit development.
- Responsibilities may include: Donor research and prospecting, supporting data entry and hygiene in Salesforce, special events assistance, donor stewardship/correspondence support.
- Programs: The Programs Intern will play a key role in developing the Trust's recently launched educational and civic platform, the National Mall Gateway. The intern will also work with the teams to cover "on the Mall" needs, specifically providing visitor services and supporting volunteers at the US Park Police Horse Stables and Education Center, Lockkeeper's House, and other priority sites across the National Mall. This may include supporting special programming tied to America's historic 250th anniversary this summer.
- Responsibilities: researching and creating content for the National Mall Gateway; assembling marketing kits for distribution to classrooms; preparing materials for educational conferences; supporting the execution of public programs; staffing Trust priority sites on the National Mall; supporting the expansion and success of the Volunteers-in-Parks program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current college (undergraduate or graduate) student or within 1 year of graduating.
- Able to commit at least 20-30 hours / week during normal office hours (Monday - Friday). Occasional weekend or evening availability may be required.
- Able to work in person at the Trust for the National Mall office at least 2 days per week.
- Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, take initiative, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Strong connection to the Trust for the National Mall mission, our National Parks, and your preferred focus area.
