    The Montclair History Center (MHC) is a small, community-focused organization dedicated to sharing Montclair’s rich and diverse history through research, education, and public programs. Our Orange Road campus includes three historic houses, gardens, and a public research library that create a lively place for learning and exploration. From our artifact collections and archives, to museum tours, lectures, school programs, and hands-on activities for all ages, MHC brings history to life in welcoming and meaningful ways.     The Opportunity

    The Development Manager is responsible to grow foundation and corporate support, develop and implement strategies to strengthen and expand the organization’s membership and donor base, plan and execute fundraising events, and identify and cultivate partnerships to support and broaden the organization’s reach and audience engagement.

    What You’ll Do

    Annual Development Plan

    Develop and execute strategies aligned with the annual development plan to achieve year-over-year growth goals.

    • Increase individual giving
    • Increase membership and engagement
    • Increase corporate partnerships and event sponsorships
    • Increase and secure new foundation support
    • Lead and execute fundraising events to increase revenue
    • Lead and execute the annual appeal/campaign to increase donations

    Development Responsibilities

    • Maintain and utilize the donor database effectively
    • Conduct research and create engagement plans for prospective corporate and foundation partners
    • Build and execute personalized engagement plans to strengthen relationships with current, former, and prospective donors/members
    • Lead the planning and execution of fundraising events, collaborating with staff, board members, and volunteers
    • Actively participate in team meetings, strategic planning sessions, and the fundraising committee
    • Support the organization in plans to develop revenue-generating public programs and research services
    • Provide grant assistance as needed for foundations, corporate, state, and federal agencies
    • Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational development goals

    Secondary Functions/Responsibilities

    • Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Trustees and Executive Director
    • All staff members participate in the implementation of public programs on and offsite and virtually. Training is provided for public programs and operation of historic buildings.

    What You Bring

    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in a similar role
    • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Canva
    • Proficiency with donor management systems, preferably DonorDock
    • Passion for and commitment to local and New Jersey history
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment
    • Highly organized, with the ability to balance multiple projects at once and meet quarterly goals

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Tuesday-Friday, 20 hours/week at $30/hour, hybrid possible
    • Some evening and weekend work is required for events
    • Eligible for accrued sick time and a paid winter break closure
    • Professional development and training opportunities available
