    General Info on SAGE:

    SAGE is the country’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) older people. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization that offers supportive services and consumer resources to LGBTQ+ older people and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBTQ+ older people, provides education and technical assistance for aging providers and LGBTQ+ organizations through its National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging, and cultural competence training through SAGECare. SAGE supports a growing network of 70+ SAGECollab Partners across the country.

    Who We Need:

    We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical accountant/analyst to join our team. This role reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for reviewing and analyzing financial data, ensuring accurate budget management, and providing financial insights and recommendations to department leaders, executives, and financial decision makers. The ideal candidate will have strong financial acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

    What You’ll Do:

    • Prepare monthly and annual financial statement workpapers, including but not limited to:
    • Partner with Controller on all aspects of annual audit preparation
    • Review monthly revenue alignment workpapers in collaborating with Development department – this involves ensuring accuracy in recording and review of supporting grant documentation
    • Net Asset Roll forward and Deferred Revenue Workpaper preparation – these workpapers are used to track spending on all restricted gifts received by the organization. Preparation involves reviewing Budget vs. Actual reports, reviewing analysis, and flagging any potential lag in spending.
    • Government Accrual Workpaper – Monthly analysis of government spending and invoicing is required to determine any appropriate revenue accruals
    • Development of annual operating budget:
      • Collaborate with and assist CFO in leading annual budgeting process
      • Collaborate with Director of Grants, Contracts, and Compliance to included grant-funded expenses in operating budgets
      • Coordinate annual budgeting process with department leaders
    • Train and liaise with department leads to ensure successful budget development and monitoring:
      • Conduct Budget vs. Actual training sessions for existing department directors to enhance financial literacy and accountability.
      • Train and onboard new budget managers, ensuring they understand financial procedures, reporting expectations, and best practices.
    • Ongoing budget monitoring:
      • Distribute Budget vs. Actual reports to budget managers and promptly address any questions or concerns regarding financial performance.
      • Delegate and review reclassification requests from budget managers, ensuring accuracy and adherence to financial policies.
      • Review and analyze monthly departmental Budget vs. Actual reports to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas of over/under spending.
      • Collaborate with CFO in leading monthly reforecasting process.
      • Provide ongoing monitoring of restricted funding sources to ensure that they are reflected in operating budget
      • Advise department leaders, executives, and financial decision makers when adjustments to planned expenses are needed

    Qualifications & Skills:

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or accounting. (Degree in accounting or related field may be substituted for 1 year of experience.)
    • CPA/CPA Candidate is a plus, but not a requirement.
    • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and government grant reporting
    • Strong proficiency in financial reporting tools and Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, Index/Match, Sumifs, If/then, etc.).
    • Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.

    What We Offer:

    • The status: This is a permanent, full-time, regular, exempt position
    • The location and work schedule: ~35 hours per week, M-F 9:30-5:30 and can work 100% remote or at SAGE’s NY Headquarters
    • The salary range: $80,000-$85,000
