    Overview

Los Angeles Reporting Collective (LARC) is a small but growing nonprofit project that supports emerging reporters, builds community and creates accessible programs for journalists and civic media makers in Los Angeles. We run a reporting fellowship, collaborative events, workshops and pilot projects focused on hyperlocal storytelling in Southern California.

LARC’s team currently consists of an Executive Director, an Advisory Board and a part-time Operations Coordinator. As we grow, we are seeking a part-time Associate Director who can bring experience, steadiness and past leadership to guide the organization’s next phase. The Associate Director will work closely with the Executive Director to support strategy, operations and development. This role calls for someone who brings good judgment, steady coordination and past experience growing nonprofit organizations. It is ideal for a mid-career professional from the nonprofit or journalism world who wants to help shape a civic-focused project.

This role offers a flexible, hybrid schedule, ideal for someone who wants meaningful part-time work with room to shape their own time.

    • Experience helping build or grow a comparable program or organization
    • Experience with development strategy and donor stewardship
    • Strong project management abilities, including clear communication and consistent follow-through
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to bring leadership to shared work
    • Familiarity with the Los Angeles journalism, media or nonprofit landscape
    • LA-based, with the ability to occasionally attend in-person events and meetings (though 90 percent of the work can be done remotely)

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support organizational planning, priority setting and big picture goals.
    • Work closely with the Executive Director and Advisory Board to keep decisions grounded and momentum steady.
    • Build and sustain relationships with community partners, newsroom collaborators and civic organizations.
    • Help coordinate logistics and on-the-ground execution for workshops, events and fellowship activities.
    • Contribute to annual development planning and donor stewardship, including follow-up and small cultivation efforts.
    • Assist with budgeting and basic financial tracking.
    • Draft or refine communications that help tell LARC’s story and extend our reach.
