LARC

  • Mission

Los Angeles Reporting Collective (LARC) is a nonprofit project supporting emerging journalists and civic media across Southern California. LARC provides free mentorship and training to help reporters develop skills and tell stories that matter. Rooted in values of equity, transparency and local impact, LARC collaborates with partners like KCRW and the LA Press Club on accessible public programming that uplifts underrepresented voices.

    About Us

Los Angeles Reporting Collective (LARC) began in 2021 as LA Radio Club, a grassroots gathering of audio journalists hosting informal workshops and talks with local reporters. In 2022 and 2023, we partnered with public media outlets to expand into mentorship and large-scale events, reaching hundreds of early-career journalists and activating community members. In 2024, LARC secured a seed grant from KCRW and fiscal sponsorship through Independent Arts & Media, enabling us to formalize our work and launch the Reporting Incubator. That same year, we convened our first advisory board to guide the organization’s growth.

The Reporting Incubator has since become our flagship program, supporting fellows in producing original, hyperlocal stories that center underrepresented voices in Southern California. These stories are distributed through partnerships with outlets such as KCRW, LA Public Press, and AfroLA, ensuring that vital local reporting reaches broad and diverse audiences. Alongside the Incubator, LARC continues to provide mentorship, training, and community-building opportunities that strengthen both emerging journalists and the ecosystems they serve.

In 2025, LARC expanded further by joining the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN), securing support from LA-area family foundations, launching an equipment-lending library, and piloting a rapid-response reporting project focused on immigration and ICE enforcement. We also formally rebranded as the Los Angeles Reporting Collective to reflect our broader mission. Today, LARC stands as a trusted space where emerging journalists can build careers, communities can see themselves represented, and civic-minded storytelling can thrive.
