    Position Summary

    Northampton Open Media (NOM) seeks a community-focused Digital Navigator to support the organization's Laptop Checkout and Digital Equity initiatives by managing technology distribution, providing one-on-one digital support, and ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of devices. The Digital Navigator will play a key role in helping community members gain access to technology while building the digital skills needed to fully participate in education, employment, healthcare, civic engagement, and everyday life.

    This is a temporary independent contractor position. The successful candidate will begin work as soon as possible, with the contract running through December 1, 2026

    Responsibilities

    Device Inventory & Asset Management

    • Use TechCheckIt to implement and maintain the organization's device management system.
    • Scan, catalog, label, and inventory all laptops and other digital devices and manage storage logistics.
    • Verify device information, serial numbers, condition, and deployment status.
    • Develop procedures for maintaining accurate records.
    • Test equipment to ensure devices are fully functional prior to deployment.

    Device Lending Program

    • Manage the checkout, return, and renewal process for laptops and related equipment.
    • Collaborate in Marketing the Program
    • Prepare devices for distribution, including software updates and basic configuration.
    • Coordinate delivery or pickup of equipment for participants.
    • Inspect returned equipment and document any maintenance needs.
    • Maintain accurate records of all equipment loans.

    Digital Navigation Services

    • Provide one-on-one digital navigation assistance to community members.
    • Possible areas of assistance include basic computer skills, internet access, device setup, email creation and management, online job applications, telehealth access, accessing government and community services, online safety and digital literacy
    • Make referrals to partner organizations when additional support is needed.

    Data Collection & Reporting

    • Maintain participant records while protecting confidentiality.
    • Track equipment utilization and digital navigation services.
    • Collect program metrics required by funders.
    • Prepare and submit reports to the Alliance in accordance with grant requirements.
    • Assist with documentation needed for grant compliance and evaluation.

    Qualifications

    • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
    • Comfortable teaching technology to individuals with varying levels of digital experience.
    • Experience using Windows and/or Chromebook computers.
    • Excellent organizational and recordkeeping skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain accurate documentation.
    • Ability to lift and transport laptops and related equipment.
    • Reliable transportation for equipment delivery.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Commitment to digital equity and serving diverse populations.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience as a Digital Navigator
    • Experience working in community organizations or nonprofit settings.
    • Familiarity with asset management or inventory software.
    • Experience supporting older adults, individuals with disabilities, low-income households, or other underserved populations.
    • Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.

    Work Environment

    This position includes office work, community outreach, equipment handling, and travel within the region. Some evening or weekend hours may be required to support community events or digital navigation sessions.
