    Description

    THE CENTRAL VALLEY AIR QUALITY (CVAQ) COALITION

    The CVAQ Coalition is a diverse, dynamic partnership of environmental justice and public health organizations working collaboratively to restore clean air to the San Joaquin Valley, with prioritization for communities of color and low income communities that are disproportionately impacted. CVAQ’s mission is to work toward awareness, act as a watchdog, advocate for policy, and mobilize communities to restore clean air to the San Joaquin Valley. CVAQ is a project of Social & Environmental Entrepreneurs (SEE), a registered public non-profit. More information can be found at www.calcleanair.org.

    PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide logistical support to CVAQ campaign activities and events, including CVAQ’s Watchdog, Energy, and SJV EJ Committees, Action Day and the annual All CVAQ meeting;
    • Develop and maintain knowledge of air pollution problems and solutions, relevant decision making bodies, laws, regulations, and policies;
    • Assist in the development of policy, communications, outreach and educational materials;
    • Assist in the production and distribution of content for website and social media accounts;
    • Attend assigned meetings; organize members and provide public testimony as assigned;
    • Perform administrative duties such as answering the phone, notetaking, and scheduling;
    • Provide general support to the Director and Coordinator as assigned by the Director.

    DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

    • Strong initiative, well organized, highly accountable;
    • Passionate about environmental justice, and the health of San Joaquin Valley residents;
    • Strong interpersonal skills including poise, tact and diplomacy;
    • Excellent public speaking skills, and superior writing and editing skills;
    • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, online social media platforms, and online collaborative tools such as Google Docs;
    • Attention to detail in composing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.

    POSITION DETAILS

    • To start, this position will be 10-15 hours per week for a 6 month term, with potential for continuation based on capacity.
    • Pay range: $21-25 per hour, depending on experience
    • The primary place of business is virtual, with varied travel with the San Joaquin Valley region and occasionally Sacramento. Reliable transportation is required.

    PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT & DEMANDS

    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Employees in this position will be required to work indoors in a standard office environment; travel by motor vehicle outdoors in varying degrees of temperatures; work in indoor and outdoor environments that are outside of the office setting; and come in direct contact with community members, government representatives, and CVAQ members and staff.
