    Description

    The American Battlefield Trust, the nation’s premier historic land preservation nonprofit, seeks a Communications Associate to build awareness of the Trust, its mission, programs and impact. Using earned, owned and paid media, strategic partnerships, advantageous placements and other innovative outreach avenues, you will introduce potential advocates and funders to our cause: saving hallowed ground and helping more Americans appreciate the ongoing resonance of our nation’s history. As we mark the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War and our nation’s founding, you will encourage Americans to experience the power of place by visiting battlefields and historic sites. Please note: the creative functions of this role are outside our social media footprint.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities

    • Proactively generate attention for the Trust, its programs and initiatives by advancing messaging that defines the brand and expands reach and impact
    • Orchestrate logistics surrounding events to support Policy Department programs, such as news conferences, grassroots advocacy briefings and partner workshops
    • Maintain and fulfill display advertising calendar, to include ideating copy and visuals that provide timely and meaningful updates in worthwhile outlets
    • Instill processes for tracking metrics stemming from print and other non-digital advertising, strengthen the pipeline that converts content consumers into donors
    • Advance brand-building opportunities, including paid media, content marketing, sponsorships and collaborations that introduce new audiences to the Trust’s work
    • Coordinate the nomination process for the American Battlefield Trust Prize for History, working with publishers and authors to solicit and verify submissions
    • Write and edit articles, emails, columns and articles about Trust activities for a variety of audiences, outlets and formats
    • Ensure appropriate and consistent use of Trust brand and voice and style guide
    • Create and produce physical collateral regarding Trust initiatives and programs for battlefields, historic sites and museums aligned with our mission, coordinating placement and fulfillment

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience in communications and PR, marketing, publications, advertising or other relevant creative field
    • Keen interest in American history and a flair for good storytelling
    • Exceptional writing abilities, including mastery of marrying tone and medium, coupled with proficiency in editing for grammar, clarity and succinctness
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in coordinating logistics for tangible events and products.
    • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities and meet firm deadlines while maintaining a results-oriented, entrepreneurial and problem-solving mindset
    • An eye for good design – ideally paired with experience in graphic design and visual storytelling platforms
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required; experience with Adobe graphic design platforms desired; knowledge of Drupal CMS and digital asset management valued
