    Description

    Health Advocates for Older People, www.hafop.org, is a well-established 501c3, nonprofit organization that promotes safe and healthy aging by offering free programs and services to adults, age 60+, in New York City. The agency is seeking a Program Coordinator to organize and oversee a number of these programs. The coordinator will administer wellness classes (taught by a roster of certified instructors), identify and schedule speakers for presentations on engaging topics, organize trips to cultural attractions, assist in organizing community celebrations, staff our Saturday program, and oversee volunteers.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Overseeing a schedule of 20+ weekly exercise classes and other activities working with established and new community partners and instructors.
    • Creating monthly program calendars and sending regular program reminders to participants.
    • Staffing the agency’s Saturday Program serving 30-50 older adults each week from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays and located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
    • Recruiting, engaging, orienting, and tracking participation for volunteers who support programs in a variety of roles.
    • Assisting in organizing annual community celebrations.
    • Representing the agency with community partner agencies.
    • Responding to community inquiries.
    • Tracking class participation.
    • Maintaining and updating the agency mailing list.
    • Posting on social media to promote the agency’s work.
    • Working with colleagues to improve office systems and procedures.
    • Other responsibilities as requested.

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience working with older adults and/or volunteers
    • Prior experience working at or volunteering with a nonprofit organization
    • An interest in learning, developing professionally and building new skills
    • Maturity and a sense of responsibility
    • Comfort with and interest in learning new software. Familiarity with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Power Point is required. Prior experience using Donor Perfect, Canva and Constant Contact is a plus.

    Schedule and Other

    Because the regular schedule includes Saturdays, the position also includes one weekday off each week. This is a hybrid role requiring 2-3 days per week onsite in Manhattan.

    We are also open to hiring a four-day per week or hourly employee, with a reduced scope of responsibilities.
