    Position: Human Resources Generalist, Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project

    Status: Full Time, exempt

    Location: This position can be remote or work out of TLC’s offices in Oakland or Brooklyn

    Reports to: Senior HR Manager

    Salary: $97,200

    About Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project

    The Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project (BLMP) envisions a world where no one is forced to give up their homeland and where all Black LGBTQIA+ people are free and liberated. We build and center the power of Black LGBTQIA+ migrants to ensure the liberation of all Black people through Organizing & Base-building, Strategic Communications, and Viability & Sustainability. We are led by a directly impacted steering committee, staff and consultants, and operate organizing networks in New York City, DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia region), Minneapolis, California, and the South. We build power, community, and knowledge in the U.S., while challenging the role that the U.S. plays globally in creating the conditions that force us to leave our homes.

    About the Position

    We are seeking a skilled and mission-aligned HR Generalist to serve as the dedicated people and culture partner for the Black LGBTQ+ Migrant Project (BLMP), a fiscally sponsored project of TLC. This role will focus on supporting BLMP staff and leadership across employee relations, compliance, learning and development, and organizational culture.

    This position sits within TLC's People and Culture team, ensuring BLMP receives dedicated HR support while staying connected to TLC's HR frameworks and compliance infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings strong HR expertise, a trauma-informed approach, and a genuine commitment to the Black LGBTQ+ and migrant communities that BLMP serves.

    Key Responsibilities

    Employee Relations & Performance Support

      • Serve as a first point of contact for employee relations concerns
      • Conduct workplace investigations in a fair, trauma-informed, and legally compliant manner
      • Support managers with performance management processes (coaching conversations, written warnings, PIPs)
      • Facilitate conflict resolution and restorative conversations when appropriate
      • Provide guidance on accommodations and interactive process requirements

    Policy & Compliance

      • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g., wage & hour, leave laws, anti-discrimination statutes)
      • Maintain and update HR policies to align with legal requirements and organizational values
      • Support leave administration (FMLA, state-specific sick time, PTO tracking, ADA)
      • Partner with leadership to reduce risk and ensure equitable employment practices
      • Maintain accurate employee records and documentation

    Learning & Development

      • Support manager training initiatives
      • Assist with leadership development programming
      • Track and support performance review cycles
      • Identify trends in employee feedback to inform growth opportunities

    Administrative & Systems Support

      • Maintain HRIS systems and personnel files
      • Prepare HR reports and workforce analytics
      • Support audits and documentation requests
      • Assist with payroll coordination as needed

    Culture & Organizational Development

      • Support initiatives that promote engagement, belonging, and psychological safety
      • Partner with leadership to reinforce organizational values
      • Assist in change management and communication planning
      • Analyze HR data to identify workforce trends and recommend improvements
      • Participate in organization-wide activities and shared responsibilities that support team alignment and culture.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • 1-3 years of HR experience across functions such as employee relations, compliance, or learning and development
    • Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices
    • Experience maintaining HRIS systems, personnel records, and HR documentation
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate sensitive situations with discretion and a trauma-informed, restorative approach to conflict resolution
    • Familiarity with community organizing and the ability to work effectively alongside grassroots and movement-based organizations
    • Passion for and commitment to Black liberation, Black migrant justice, and the abolition of the carceral state
